The Girl who Really Didn't Just Live

As you might notice from my blog title today, I'm revisiting The Girl who Didn't Just Live. Last time, the story died and was replaced by the short-lived A Hogwarts Harmony. Which was replaced by the even shorter-lived ARM (I don't think I've released even the full title for that one yet, let alone the first chapter, but it's pretty close to DOA)... and a recent comment

    I'm not afraid to die.

No, don't get me wrong, I'm not suicidal.

The thing is... this morning, I fell ill. It was probably a couple days ago when it actually started, but despite repeated measuring, I didn't have a fever. That changed last night- my temperature shot from normal to a moderate fever overnight, left me with no energy to anything when I got up.

The Girl Who... really didn't just live after all, I guess.

Pardon the twisted title up there, but I couldn't resist. I am, after all, talking about TGwDJL: The Girl who Didn't Just Live... but also died.

    Hiatus... Expired!

    Hello.

For the last while, despite a few updates to some stories (I guess TGwDJL got a rewrite released seven weeks ago...?), I've been on Author Hiatus for the last while, and now I'm finally coming back. I've restabilized myself, and I'm ready to resume writing, and actually getting stuff done once again.

She who did Far More than Just Living

    Hai.

So, we now have The Girl who Didn't Just Live Chapter 22 live. It was an absolute nightmare to rewrite, I can tell you- it took a small eternity to make sure there was actually a reason for Hailey to resurrect her mother. Not her father, though, that part ended up getting dropped from the chapter... yet it still grew by a thousand words or so.

Announcing: The Boy who Disappeared, Rewrite In Progress! · 4:52am Sep 26th, 2020

First of all, sorry about the half-comprehensible blog post. It's late, and I should be in bed. My head isn't running at capacity right now.

Many of you haven't even heard of the story I wrote a long time ago, The Boy who Disappeared.

That's because it was a straight-up HP fic, with no MLP crossover. It was only ever accessible on my Patreon.

But I'm finally rewriting it, for those that have heard of it, and it is becoming an MLP crossover, so you should see it on here, starting at about Chap. 2, I think... before that, it will be available on my Patreon. Before you go dancing over there, though, beware- the 4 chapters currently available on my Patreon are of an old version that bears little to no resemblance to the new version!

And no, it won't be On the Implications of Parallel Worlds 2.0, since it doesn't feature mass numbers of Equestrians going to Hogwarts. And it won't be Magic Scool Days or If Wishes were Ponies 2.0 either, since it doesn't involve the CMC. And it won't be The Phoenix beyond the Veil 2.0, because it doesn't involve Sunset.

Among other reasons. Let's be fair here.

That said, I have come up with what I believe is a rather unique twist for the world, that should make it a rather uniquely entertaining read. And no, the old version didn't have it.

Whenever it does go public, it'll be taking the Wednesday update slot (to Just Like Magic of Old's Monday and On the Implications of Parallel Worlds' Tuesday).

And before you panic about how OtIoPW isn't being focused on, don't worry! I have (one) chapter waiting for publication in a few days! And I also have about half of Chap. 49 written... Don't worry, it won't be abandoned. And neither will JLMoO, which missed an update last week and will miss the coming update as well. It's currently stuck on writer's block- but I expect to soon have a lot more free time than I ever expected to have. Like, 5-7 hours a day, that is otherwise just staring at the ceiling in a hotel room, waiting for the clock to tick to dinnertime so I can start working.

So yes. My life is busier than it's been in a long time, but I simultaneously have a lot more time to write, and actually feel comfortable announcing another rewrite. Funny how that works, isn't it?

I did actually read that one, so I'm really looking forward to this rewrite. That was an interesting one.

I notice you are clustering your update days (Mon Tues Wed), whereas most other authors I've come across spread them out (like Mon Wed Fri). Is there a reason for that?

Note: I have no preference either way; I'm simply curious.

I'm starting at the beginning... filling slots in order. Makes no difference to my workload if they're all clustered together or if they're spread out- and until sometime probably late next week, it also won't matter to my patrons.

... Yeah, I'm rolling out a change to my Patreon tier structure soon. Nobody's going to lose anything, but people will actually have an incentive to pick a higher tier, aside from giving me more money or seeing their name on my profile page... I'll also have an incentive to write more, so that those higher tiers can still have exclusive access to something, as well. It'll only be early access, don't worry- just different levels of early access...

Other authors probably spread them out because it keeps the overall reader attention level roughly consistent throughout the week. Bunching them up like I've been doing tends to result in a large spike of reader activity that then falls off.

Meanwhile, I've had stories benefit from that spike- particularly the new ones. They get a lot of attention... and end up with a rating. All told, I'm pretty well satisfied with the 24/1 like/dislike ratio that The Boy who Disappeared (Yes, it's gone public on here by now) acquired during its rush and second-day feature (even though I didn't publish anything on that second day... I find that interesting).
