The Plot Of My New Non-Pony Sci-fi Short Story · 6:40pm Sep 25th, 2020

So this is my third semester in high school and under these three years my writing abilities grew into a serious level. At least it's serious for me, because I wrote a whole but shitty novel last year and printed it out as the first physical evidence that someday I'll hopefully write a fully good and functioning novel as an adult writer. Now I'm seventeen and during january in 2021 I'll become eighteen. I was trying to write something under 2020's summer, but nothing came out of my mind as a whole story. I tried fantasy genre a lot of times with only a couple of characters because I'm keeping their names because they're cool :) until I had this idea to write a short story for a school project (I posted it here as a blog post about four months ago). Never tried this formula before with my native language, but as I wrote it I just found it interesting. And now in the middle of September I'm writing another short story for myself and for my friends and family to read. It doesn't have any title at the moment, but that's not important. So now I'll share the short story's plot with you.

Prepare yourself, this wil be serious

The setting is science fiction again, somehow I find it easy to write. It revolves around a high-tech corporation called TETRA Industries that's headquarters is in the city of Chicago (never been there but somehow I love Chicago it's just a great place). TETRA is founded by Taddeous Winton (I imagined him after Morgan Freeman) who cares a lot about humanity's future, and who also founds a scientific project within the corporation.

In the modern setting of 2019 TETRA's own space shuttle discovers a rare material in space called Dark Energy. It brings it down to Earth and TETRA's smartest scientists immediately start studying it. Here in the laboratories we'll meet Emil Rosling (a university student and part-time scientist apprentice) and Dr. Aiko Sawa (a real scientist) who are a team. We also meet the CEO Taddeous Winton's advisor, Chanson (I imagined him after Aidan Gillen, aka Little Finger from Game of Thrones).

Soon humanity learns that Dark Energy is dangerous for life after testing it on animals, but it will not be out of the question that Dark Energy will react differently when being inside a strong and muscular person whose immune system could protect him from it. So they test it on a champion boxer called Mitchell. Mitchell experiences hallucinations and blackouts as the alien material flows inside his weins. But fortunately it does not kill him becouse of his trong will.

Soon it will be known in the public that Dark Energy can affect humans and that it is destructive when taken out of vacuum space. So the ordinary people will ask the question: Can it be used as a weapon? Like an Atom-bomb, or a Hydrogen-bomb? Basically yes, but it has a more proper use that the two TETRA scientists (Emil and Aiko) found out eariler: the theory that Dark Energy can be used for creating portals that lead to parallel universes. Because of the paranoia that Dark Energy could in fact mean a threat to humanity, TETRA's unnamed rival company employs an assassin and professional killer called Novak, whose purpose is to steal the Dark Energy from TETRA and stop them in their plans.

After Emil and Aiko's theory is proven and after Mitchell genetically unites with the Dark Energy inside him, TETRA buys a hangar to build a portal in it and so they would be able to see other parallel universes and so humanity could be wiser than ever. During an interview, CEO Taddeous Winton is shot by Novak. At that evening (we're in the climax now), every main character is present when TETRA's tech people are trying to activate the portal. Novak appears and intends to cut off the great moment when the portal comes alive. Novak reveals that he didn't kill Winton because he's evil, he's only scared from the Dark Energy and the cataclyst it could cause. We all know that if something scares people, they could do horrible things to destroy the fear. Novak says he has a deep belief in christianity and this way he found connections between the Dark Energy's use and the story of Adam and Eve and also Pandora's box. Eve bit the forbidden fruit and from that moment humanity is sinned. As TETRA will activate the gate between worlds, they will cause something that won't be reversible, just like the opening of Pandora's box. He doesn't want to force his belief onto the people, he only wants them to understand him and his perspective and that he only does horrible things for the greater good and he also believes in the greater good.

It was not certain who will walk through the portal, but for Novak it is certain that he must eliminate Mitchell, because of his key-role as the only human whose body accepted Dark Energy. Before he could do it, Aiko throws a capsule of Dark Energy to him and the capsule breaks. It is known that when it's not in vacuum, the material can be destructive, killing people by tearing them apart to many flesh peaces. This will be Novak's fate too, only his gun remained on the ground after he was torn by the material's force.

The portal's ready and they choose Mitchell to walk through it. He does it and sees millions and millions of different Earths. He sees himself in different bodies running by different names. He sees the alternative worlds' beginnings and ends. He also sees TETRA, a reality where Taddeous Winton is somehow alive and a depressive Earth where Dark Energy is used in World War III. As he appears on his own Earth after the portal was closed, the new CEO of TETRA Industries, Eva Angeline, invites him to an interview chat in private to talk about the things he saw beyond the portal.

---THE END---

Have you made it to the end of this post? What do you think about this short story?
