Again More Info for the Sequel: The Void · 12:26pm Sep 9th, 2020
If universes are bubbles, then the void is that space between the bubbles. Or, a better image would be that if universes were cells, then the void would be the blood giving life to those cells.
The void is an infinity of Nothingness. There are no time, no space, no laws of physique... Nothing.
Excepted one thing: an energy.
Like nobody knows the origin of the Omniverse, nobody knows the origin of this energy, or rather, The Energy.
Void Energy. Original Energy. Energy of Creation and Destruction. It possesses many, many, many names. It is the energy from which everything comes and toward which everything ends. If the Omniverse had a family tree, then this energy would be at the beginning (without counting the God of the Omniverse if They exist).
And this energy, present in infinite quantity, is the main source of power of the majority of the Gods of the second category and of the totality of the Gods of the third category (and so, of the Devourers too). But learning to harness this energy doesn't mean that you will become a God because how much you can control it is limited by what you are. At best, you can train to make it better, but a simple mortal will never be able to use as much energy as a God, no matter the amount of training (but they can get pretty close and still ascend into godhood by other means).
Even among the Gods, the amount of control over this energy determines how powerful they are. In other words, even if the most powerful Gods have at first glance unlimited power, they actually have a limit, even Gods of the third category. And the only way a third category God can go beyond that limit is by absorbing another third category God, becoming a Devourer.
Back to the void. Despite its Nothingness, beside The Energy, it isn't as empty as one may think. The void is home to countless things, mainly Gods of second category or above. Beings that decided to live outside of the universes, or to watch over their universe(s) outside of space and time, or that were simply exiled there. For a mortal, however, it's almost impossible to go in the void. Because of the lack of laws of physique, they would simply disappear into Nothingness. Unless they developed a mean to avoid this fate, or they're accompanied by a God who can protect them, mortals (and most Gods of the first category) MUST remain in an universe. And if they want to traverse from universe to universe, then they must directly open a portal between them.
if hollow knight is in the sequel, then we have a headcannon for what the void is.
Interesting.
