I never really thought about it much until just recently, but there is a certain generation of Anime fans out there that know what Ranma 1/2 is. That's the English title. In Japanese, it's Ranma Nibunnoichi. The time period the anime was showing in Japan predates Neon Genesis Evangelion (arguably a more famous series) by a few years, but for the most part, both came to the US in about the same time period, back when VHS cassettes were a thing and dubbed anime song tracks were common in the industry (I'm looking at you Yu Yu Hakusho). Ranma 1/2 and The Slayers were my gateway drug into the world of Anime.
You may be wondering, What in the Wide Wide World of Equestria does this have to do with magical, talking ponies? Nothing direct, I assure you. But plenty of trivia that connect Ranma to MLP.
Both had a strong fanbase of fanfiction writers. Ranma fanfiction, for some reason lent itself well to crossing over into other series. It was so prolific that in the days of Message Boards and Mailing Lists, that had dedicated site for crossing it with Sailor Moon, but it had a very large (for the time) following just in general. SFaccountant actually has two great Ranma/Trixies stories here on the site.
If you ever watched the dub of Ranma 1/2, you'd probably recognize some of the voice talent. Two that come to mind right off the bat are Kelly Sheridan, the voice of Starlight Glimmer, who voiced Ukyo in the dub and Cathy Weseluck, the voice of Spike, who voiced Shampoo and Azusa Shiratori. Scott McNeill, Ian James Cortlett, Tabitha St. Germain, and Nicole Oliver also have rolls in Ranma 1/2. There, that's the connection to make this relevant. Not enough?
Well... how about listing to the song that prompted this whole brain dump. It's an orchestral version of Jajauma ni Sasenaide. That literally translates to "Don't make me a Shrew" but the dubbers of the time dublated it to "Don't make me wild like you"

The nostalgia was strong with this one, but once it was all brass and woodwinds, only then did I truly understand how utterly chaotic the song was and how it really fit the series. After all, the basic premise of the show is: Manly teen martial artist is cursed to become a girl when splashed with cold water. When splashed with warm water, then he returns to normal until the next water hijinx. Oh and he's engaged to dozens of girls, but generally only 3 or 4 are in it for the long hall. The other fiancees are basically the equivalent of the monster of the week. If you saw what he got up to on a regular basis, then I can only imagine Discord would approve.
