A good story displays a moral, the best ones attach you to the characters who display them.

Background shamelessly stolen from an actual SoT book

    Featured?!

Y'know for a moment there I was scared I'd lost my touch when it came to writing after I took those years on hiatus... this is a really encouraging sign.

Thank you all so much for showing me I've still got it! It's reassuring, and more than a little flattering. Don't think I've really processed it yet, since I basically just woke up.

    Good to be Back

I won't promise that I'll be able to return to my old projects immediately, or even at all. But I did mean it when I said I was coming back! I've spent too long not doing anything about my passion for writing, and that needs to change. :twilightblush:

So, in I come with a brand new story to tell! Please, come and tell me what you think of the beginning to the Coves of Courage!

    The Old Bones Creak

The pegasus' eyes fluttered open blearily. How long had it been since they closed? Weeks? Months? His coat felt uneven and unkempt, his mane was longer than he remembered, and thick with tangles he could feel without even moving yet. When his eyes adjusted to the low light around him, the dusk seeping in through a boarded up window; everything he had known was coated in moss and lichen. Vines

And now to give you a taste of what this has been for, here's a small segment of the in-progress Chapter Six: Reflections!

Apple Bloom felt her chest tighten as she stared up at the massive oak barricades. As much as she tried to convince herself that those ornate, twin sharp-arched doors were the only obstacle between her and the answers she wanted, she couldn’t lift her legs to take even a single step forward. She felt afraid, but she didn’t know why. It was just a simple question, surely her mother wouldn’t be upset with a question?

With a deep breath, and a head bowing low, she lifted a hoof to the stern wood. The door swung open slightly, gliding across the floor with what would have been a welcoming creak for any other visitor. Apple Bloom tenderly stepped through the entrance into the cavernous room, keeping her eyes on the ground as she faced the opposite end of the hall.

“Momma?” She ventured cautiously, kneeling onto the golden-trimmed green chartreuse carpet that stretched to the foot of the throne she knew was ahead of her. “Ah’m sorry, Ah know it ain’t my place to be here, but--” she stopped short when she looked up at the throne. It was a massive seat, carved carefully into the trunk of a thriving, vibrant apple tree. The thickest she’d ever seen, spreading its branches like a great fan to welcome the rising sun. It carried deep scorches down the length of the northern side, newer scars on the immense relic. But what shocked Apple Bloom the most was that the throne was entirely empty, no imposing matriarch in her place scrutinizing the little filly.

“Over here, Bloom.” A tired voice echoed out, drawing Apple Bloom’s attention to a long table stretching against the southern wall of the open chamber. At its head sat a visibly weary Applejack, her blonde mane in tangles as her eyes stared at the throne with an emotion Apple Bloom couldn’t recognize, but that haunted her. “It’s alright, filly. It… it ain’t my place to be in here neither. Not yet.” Applejack barely turned towards her daughter as she spoke.

Apple Bloom kept her head low as she approached, her gut screaming at her to run at the sight of her mother. But she crept forward regardless, an unsteady determination slowly driving her ahead.

Until Next Time, God Bless You!
