Today, for my 40th episode analysis, I'm gonna give you guys my take of "Toy Story of Terror!"

Here's the rundown of this Toy Story short:

During a vacation with Bonnie and her Mom, and while staying at a motel, Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Mr. Potato Head, Rex, Trixie, and Mr. Pricklepants find themselves in the center of a very...horrific undertaking.

I'm not gonna lie, I've been wanting to do an analysis of this television special for quite some time. The first time I saw it was on ABC during the Halloween season, and I later got this short on DVD.

Wanna know what I think of it?

IT'S FANTASTIC!!!

Everything about this short was wonderful from start to finish!

For instance, the direction and story by Angus MacLane were all-out spectacular. It was so amazing how he was able to create a horror story while still making it friendly for all ages, and the comedy throughout the special was all-out hilarious. Plus, there were genuine thrilling, suspenseful, and unpredictable moments that left me on the edge of my seat, and the narrative terrifically tied together. In addition, the special carried great morals for people of all ages to live by, which is to conquer your fears and keep them from controlling you, as well as to never give up even when all hope seems lost.

The animation of this special was amazing, if I may add. For working on what was quite likely a very small budget, MacLane and the animators took the animation to a height that incredibly matched the Toy Story movies. Not only that, but they gave it a visual style that was unique all on its own, and it fit the concept and genre beautifully.

The music by Michael Giacchino was likewise impressive. He's definitely not Randy Newman, but the way he was able to capture the spirit of Newman's work in the films while using his own distinct style was remarkable. He particularly helped the special be emotionally unpredictable and thrilling through his music alone.

Finally, the vocal performances, characters, and character development were stupendous. Out of all the returning cast members, it was Joan Cusack that I thought gave the most powerful performance. Cusack portrayed Jessie with astoundingly mighty emotion and feeling, and the character not only had dynamic development but had the best role in the special. Plus, Timothy Dalton was quite a scene-stealer in his portrayal of Mr. Pricklepants, and the special's new characters and cast members were instantly welcoming additions to the Toy Story franchise.

In conclusion, "Toy Story of Terror" is one of the most fun animated specials I've ever watched. It's magnificently crafted, the vocal performances and characters were awesome, everything!

So, I rate "Toy Story of Terror" five out of five stars.
