    Check In

    Afternoon/evening folks!

Sorry I haven't been checking in as often as I should; rest assured I'm not dead, I'm still here, just been silent as of late. Still working on fics, but also constantly debating with myself on what to focus on next, wanted to make some new stuff that isn't just Shattered or Star Wars. Wanna bring more folks in, do somethin' new.

    Top Ten Films/Series Of 2023/Reflections

First off, Happy New Year's Eve everyone!

Hard to believe another year has passed, hasn't it? *sighs* how time has flown by. A lot's happened this year; more stories, more creativity and entertainment has come, and I've learned more about myself, and I am very glad for that.

Star Wars The Clone Wars Season 7 Review · 3:04pm Sep 3rd, 2020

Star Wars the Clone Wars finally finished, we now have Season 7 done, and I finally got Disney Plus and was able to finish the series, which is amazing and sad at the same time. And frankly since I can't be motivated to write about any other movie right now, I wanna review this season, cause I feel like it!

Now before we dive in, I just wanna say there is going to be some major spoilers for this final season, so if you don't wanna be spoiled, ignore this blog post entirely and just move along. :rainbowwild: But if you don't care and just wanna see my thoughts anyway, then great, hop on in! But first, a little background.

In 2008, a new Star Wars movie was released in theaters, taking place during the Clone Wars, the gap between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. ... It wasn't not taken well. I don't remember all of the critiques for the film, but I think the major ones were that the animation was off, there were so many damn questions that needed answers out of left field, and also they hated Ahsoka.

Cut to several years and seasons of plot development over the course of the Clone Wars show... it got good. Like, insanely good. The animation got better with each passing season, people got into the characters more and more and got more answers, we got some fun fanservice here and there, Ahsoka became one of the most popular Star Wars characters ever, and it fleshed out all of those background characters we saw here and there during the prequel movies. ... Until it was suddenly cancelled very abruptly in 2013. For what reason, I don't friggin' know. And if the truth was because it was 'too graphic'... that's a load of bullcrap.

So yeah, many people including myself were left feeling unhappy without seeing how the story continued. Now we did get some clues and indications of the fates of some characters in the Rebels cartoon which was a bit of a treat, not gonna lie, but we still wanted to see the show finished. Brings us back to 2018, during the backlash debacle of the Last Jedi, a trailer dropped out of nowhere... and people were hyped. Season 7 of the Clone Wars was finally back. Until finally in 2020, they started releasing the final episodes one by one. Which brings us to here? Is Season 7 everything we hoped to see? Let's find out.

Season 7 is split into three story arcs; the good, the bleh, and the amazing. But before we talk about the actual plots and stories, I wanna talk about everything else first.

Right off the bat, the animation is friggin' gorgeous as ever. It's come a long way since the 2008 Clone Wars TV series, and it looks fantastic. It's smooth, there's plenty of energy and character in each environment, background, the character animations, its all there! Really glad to see this animation brought back, for real this time. Rebels tried to manipulate it's same type of animation, but it's not as strong as this show. This show did it better.

Also once again, the music, the music that they put into the show is beautiful. So many great pieces here and there, though I have a feeling everyone is gonna remember the scores in the final two episodes a lot more than the others. Hell, two of my favorite scores are from the final episode, and they are hauntingly gorgeous. They set the tone perfectly for the scenes they're in.

And lastly, the voice acting from everyone is once again, solid as hell. Matt Lanter as Anakin, Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano, Dee Bradley Baker as every single Clone Trooper, everyone pulls off the performances beautifully without phoning it in, you can feel they're really there. Props to the VAs.

Now with all that said, what about the writing? What about the stories for the episodes, are they any good? Let's talk about them.

The Bad Batch Arc

The first arc follows the clones who meet this group of clones with some slight genetic alterations called the Bad Batch, with them and Rex, they find out that Echo who was presumed to have been killed in the Citadel arc, is still alive, so now they are working together to try and rescue him and bring him back home safe and alive.

Probably the most enjoyable part of this overall arc, in general, is not only getting to see Captain Rex, Cody, Jesse, and many others, but it’s nice to have this final season start with regular episodes, like regular adventures that end on a relatively nice note. Especially for what you know will go down in the final episodes.

The Bad Batch themselves are pretty alright, my friend accurately described them as the A-Team of the Star Wars universe and I agree. I mean seriously, they scream 80s badasses, and hell, their leader has Rambo’s hair and bandana. Tell me you don’t see that, really, tell me. Also the return of Echo is what made this more enjoyable, although I wish we got to see a scene of him learning about Fives’ death, cause I think that would have been a really powerful moment.

Echo is now the only survivor of the Rishi outpost attack from Season 1, which is really sad, and I think him finding this out would have been better, but maybe that’ll come in the Bad Batch series, maybe. I have heard that Lucasfilm is making a spin-off of that, so maybe we’ll see Echo in that, I hope. And if we do, I still hope we’ll find out if they survive the events of Order 66, or if they’re affected at all.

So overall, these four episodes are fun and enjoyable. Give them a watch.

This leads us to… ugggghhhh. The second arc. Which is just, blehhh…

The Martez Sisters Arc

The second arc follows up with Ahsoka Tano, as we finally see what she’s been up to since she left the Jedi Order at the end of Season 5, which I like, I like seeing how she’s doing, it’s really good. Also, she’s rockin’ the jumpsuit, seriously, looks awesome. She gets caught up with these two sisters, the Martez sisters who are looking to scheme their way to get some money because they have financial issues, and Ahsoka, having actual experience with many of these people… is the only sane one trying to keep them from doing something dumb.:ajbemused:

Honestly, I couldn’t give a damn about these two. On one hand, they were kinda interesting, and the voice actresses gave it their all, like really well done, and I do like that they had some reason for not liking the Jedi… but on the other hand, these episodes were dull, unimportant outside of Ahsoka’s stuff and some clues hinting at the final four, and are just… ehh. The only character I cared about was Ahsoka, cause I honestly feel bad for her, because she’s practically a babysitter for these two idiots, and she’s trying to keep them from getting killed or making dumb decisions.:ajsleepy:

Hell, honestly you know what? These shouldn’t have been episodes, I remember an unfinished progression reel for Season 7 which showed Boba Fett having a showdown with Cad Bane, an adult Boba Fett by the way. That should have been the middle, I think all of us would have loved to see Boba get a proper send off as he grows up to be the bounty hunter that collects Solo in Empire Strikes Back, and also finish off Cad Bane’s storyline; with special appearances from Bossk, Highsinger, and Embo! How interesting would that be, that would be a bajillion times more interesting! But no, we get… the Martez sisters.

Does anyone actually give a damn about these two? I mean really, is there anyone out there who actually liked these two? I’m not gonna snark or yell at you if you do, we all are entitled to like what we like, but I’m curious.

Honestly, you can pretty much skip these episodes. Nothing of importance happens, outside of showing us how Ahsoka learns about Maul and meeting Bo-Katan, which honestly could have been built up in a better written episode.

But then we get to the third and final arc… holy shit. :rainbowderp::rainbowkiss:

The Revenge Of The Sith Arc

The final four episodes are beyond unbelievable. This is some of the best Star Wars content we’ve gotten in a long time, I wanted to see this kind of storyline for a long time and we finally got it. Thank you Lucasfilm for finally making this!

Some probably now it by now, some don’t, but to give you a short summary… We are seeing things from Ahsoka’s side… during Revenge of the Sith. These final four episodes take place during Revenge of the Sith! Ahsoka along with the Mandalorian resistance contact Anakin for Republic support to take down Darth Maul and his Maulidorian empire, and so Captain Rex and a legion of clones join the Mandalorian resistance and Ahsoka to take down Maul, all the while Revenge of the Sith unfolds and the final days of the Clone Wars come…

Right off the bat, the first of the final four feels like a movie introduction. We get the Lucasfilm intro one last time and the opening theme sounds more like it’s from the movies instead of the show. Not only that, but along with seeing General Grievous looking more like his Revenge of the Sith counterpart...

... Plo Koon flying with some planes over his last battle, and Aayla Secura fighting with Commander Bly on Felucia give you that first clue that shit is about to get serious, and hit the fan.

Not only that, but these final four do a good job of keeping it in tune with Revenge, we’re given clues here and there as to where we are in the Revenge storyline, and I appreciate that. It helps give the audience a sense of where we are in that storyline and anticipate when the bad thing is gonna finally happen. Like for instance, there’s this scene where Obi-Wan is talking to Bo-Katan, Ahsoka, and Rex about the name Sidious that was mentioned by Maul, and how he heard it from Dooku but any chance of finding out more is gone. Why? Cause Anakin killed him, just like in the movie. And honestly the way that revelation was revealed… honestly I was more shocked at his told death here than in the movie, not only cause we spent more time with Dooku as a character, and it really hits you further that we’re in the final wars.

Also Darth Maul as a character, holy shit he is amazing in these final four.

I love the stuff with him, I love seeing his reactions to finding out the truth of the entire war, and I love his interactions with Ahsoka as he tries to get her to believe the reality of the situation, that is AMAZING. Not only that, but Maul in these series has gotten way more characterization than… you know. Remember how he was just that one guy who had two lines and was basically there to kill Qui-Gon and get killed by Kenobi so he can be Anakin’s master? Well, Maul in the Clone Wars is given a whole new level of character, and it is fantastic. Seriously, amazing character.

Not only that but Ahsoka’s characterization as well, her characterization in these final four episodes are amazing. I love that she clearly still has some disdain from the Jedi Order basically screwing her over from the end of Season 5, it makes complete sense! And Anakin’s reaction to seeing her again, I was squeeing hard. I was so happy he finally got to see her again, it felt like he really missed her, like she was family to him, and I love that to death.

And Captain Rex, holy hell, yes! Captain Rex is a part of these final four episodes, I love his interactions with Ahsoka, I love their dynamic, it is a ton of fun to watch, and when we get to the dreaded moment, the thing we all knew was coming… I was on edge like everyone else, I was wondering just how that would go, and I love what they did. Now okay, admittedly I feel like some of it was kinda gone cause I did see some Rebels clips and we do see Rex and Ahsoka return in those, so some of that is a bit gone.. but it’s still amazing.

And the buildup… you know what I mean. The buildup to that moment we all knew was coming… I cannot express how amazing it is. Not only did they use audio from Revenge which is an amazing touch (seriously, a nice nod to Hayden Christianson there), but then right after that, we hear Palpatine’s delivery of that famous line… ‘Execute Order 66’.

And my god, seeing Rex struggling to fight the control and you see him desperately trying not to hurt his best friend… damn. Also another bravo to the writers for more continuity, for keeping the Fives storyline in the Lost Episodes intact and bringing that back, that was cool.

Also I know this isn’t really a major note, but I like this, I love this to death. During the final two episodes, Ahsoka finds her old astromech unit R7, along with these other two astromechs who I love to death; CH33P and RG-G1, AKA, Cheep and GG. Their involvement in the final episodes were great, I love seeing astromechs be great support for the characters, just like R2 and the D-Squad. Seriously, they were great. And they are friggin’ cute. Seriously, I love that Cheep sounds like every word he’s saying is another form of ‘chirp’, very fitting to Chopper’s dialogue. Once again, awesome continuity! :rainbowkiss: And the way they come up to Ahsoka, they're so happy to see her, they feel like dogs! Eeee!

And the final scenes… holy freakin’ hell.

Absolutely no dialogue. Nothing but sounds, music, and the visuals. This is some of the best visual storytelling I've seen in a long time. Those final scenes are so haunting and sad, I don't even know how to express them. Everything was just beautiful, and honestly, for an ending... this is one of the best cartoon conclusions, period. Where Rebels ended on a hopeful note since it was set in the Original Trilogy era, this ends on a sad and depressing note, fitting to the end of the Prequels; because that's what it is. This show showed us what these people were like, their perspective of things during the war, and showed that it wasn't all black and white, and they made us care. I swear, even if you don't like the Prequels, this show would still have gotten you to care. ... Maybe, depends on your perspective.

I do appreciate Darth Vader's appearance, that was a great scene.

And honestly... this is a solid ending. Now I have no friggin' clue about the fates of everyone else who know is either alive or survived, or whatever, I still wanna know how that goes. There are still clone characters who I know are alive, and frankly, I wanna know their fates. Did they die during the final days, or they live long enough to become the things that they were always meant to be? I wanna know.

But either way, this is a perfect conclusion. I mean if it was just the first eight episodes, eh, it's okay. But these final four saved the entire season. Hell, they should have stretched these final four into a movie, just make it a movie! They already edited to feel like one! just make this an hour and a half movie and call it Final Wars or somethin', boom, done!

So in the end, I say give it a watch. But mostly for those final four, it is a perfect conclusion to a great series.

I give the final season of Star Wars the Clone Wars... a 7 out of 10.

Thank you for reading, if you did, and I hope you all have a great Thursday.

From what I've heard of the Bad Batch show, it will take place during the early days of the Empire with the team now working as mercenaries. I feel that it's a pretty safe bet Echo will be there, but I haven't heard it confirmed yet.
