Hello there! Here is my review of My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip. It was quite surprising to see the same animation from the 2017 MLP movie incorporated into this special. This style of animation, while not my favorite kind, is beautiful, life-giving, and very well-made. I didn’t think much of it the first time I watched it, but I started to finally like it after rewatching a couple more times. Also, this special does not have a villain or antagonist to put the Mane Six in conflict; I do have to admit that it was a great idea since a number of those specials particularly those from “Equestria Girls” kept focusing on villains and their battles. So it was actually refreshing to take a break from that. Let’s go:

The special starts with the Mane Six gathering together to hop on their hot air balloon as Rainbow Dash received an invitation to be a guest of honor with their “Rainbow Dash Fan Club” in Hope Hollow. The mares are excited to have this celebration with the residents at Hope Hollow. Twilight leaves Spike in charge of the School of Friendship while they depart from Ponyville. Wait... what? NOO!!! YOU CANNOT DO THAT!! Have you not hired substitute teachers to fill in your places, Twilight? Spike cannot do all of their work—the work of SIX PONIES—all by himself! Sure, Starlight is there, but she is only the guidance counselor of the school. Why... just why would she give him such a massive burden and a heavy workload to accomplish?? He is NOT a teacher. He has no experience running a school whatsoever. It’s sad he was not given that opportunity to join them in their road trip. That makes me feel sad for him.

Anyway, they fly many miles away from Ponyville and talk about all the exciting activities they will have together once they get to Hope Hollow; they then see a particular rainbow up in the sky right in front of them. They end up crashing against the rainbow (as it was shown to be a billboard) and falling from the sky. They look around the area to see that it was near civilization... of some sort. They eventually find Hope Hollow... in a state of colorlessness. Wow, I thought that was part of its color scheme at first, but that was what it looked like? That’s quite... unexpected. I had that same surprise for the ponies that lived there. Ponies with no distinctive color? That’s something new!

In the next day, we meet new characters in this special. We have Mayor Sunny Skies who is a nervous, kind, and compassionate stallion; we also have Petunia Petals who is... actually quite likable. She’s an okay character in my opinion, but there really isn’t much to say about her. The same can be said for every one of them... especially those two foals who are huge fans of Rainbow Dash. All I can say about them is that they will be excellent future Wonderbolts. So there’s that.

Anyway, the Mane Six have to assist all these ponies in getting their color back as Mayor Skies explained his reasons as to why the whole town was drained of its colors and why there was no Rainbow Festival. Ever since he took his grandfather’s place as mayor over the town, he used the Rainbow Generator to produce a bigger rainbow aurora as ponies began to slowly drift apart. Okay, HOW exactly did they drift apart? When his grandfather was mayor, they were all happy; but when Sunny filled his horseshoes, they just... slowly drifted apart. Did it have something to do with him? Was he not like him? Did they see something in him that discouraged them? What was it?!

So yeah, the device was overloaded with magic which accidentally robbed the town of its color. That’s an interesting source of conflict. In short, each of the Mane mares worked with every pony in the town that eventually made each section thereof spring forth their colors. Ultimately, they solved their problem, all of its colors return to the town with the ponies being colorful again. Lastly, that ending song they had together is actually well-done and well-played. Very catchy for my taste. So I must say... this was an entertaining and enjoyable hour-long special. Not perfect but still fun to watch. I give it a B.

Peace.

I smell a movie review, and a 50% chance the characters will be admired.

So...... was Kerfuffle at least cute for you in your opinion? X3

Rats. :/

Oh well... I respect your opinion anyways.

This movie/special is good. Not the greatest out there, but it something I can enjoy

The movie certainly was just eh to me from what I read.

Yeah.. my only gripe with it is how Spike missed out on the trip like that. Especially for a dumb reason.
Pretty sure watching over the school is STARLIGHT'S job.
And I am sure Twilight is allowed to close the school for some days or something. Its her school(and not exactly bounded by EDA or something rules).
It just hurts so much Spike missed out on a special like this.
Sucks the Royal Sisters weren't in the special either.
