OCD Attack - my best friend's sister asked me to do this for her, and I ended up having an OCD overload... · 7:28pm Aug 21st, 2020
...Kay, imma try and not melt my brain anymore than it's already degraded...
I replaced the strings on the guitar of my best friend's sister. Oddly, despite playing longer than me, she never learned how to change strings herself. Not only that, it became quickly obvious she knew nothing about guitar maintenance. She had someone else to do it for her.
It was an arctic white Les Paul Limited Edition guitar, pretty nice thing, but I aren't a fan of them. Not used to them and they don't feel right to me. The whole visit, my guitar-lover's OCD was giving me panic attacks. My friend told me it sits on a stand, no case or anything. It was dusty as hell. So dirty that it took multiple applications of guitar polish to clean it. I wasn't asked to, but I couldn't leave it in such a state. So, I cleaned it with polish and gave it some lemon oil on the fretboard.
Just...all that dust, the way it was left...it's still eating my brain cells and giving me a ringing sensation on my OCD. My love of instruments really ate at my heart this time around when I saw that. It got worse when I was shown more of them in the same condition. The anticipation to clean them and love them kept screaming at me, but I knew I wasn't supposed to.
I...I think I need to sleep for a while. And possibly have nightmares about filthy guitars. Don't know about you, but I'm cold.
For all you who play; please, for the love of god, take care of your instruments...
I have a nasty habit of not cleaning the dust on my guitar. I really need to start doing that.

*Shakes head disapprovingly*
Clean. Your. Gee-tar.
Even an old shirt as a cloth with polish will do.
