Hello there. Here is my review of Star Wars: A New Hope. To be honest with you guys, this Original Trilogy is something that I guess can be credited for its good plot, intriguing story, and wholesome characters many fans around the world adore and love. For me personally, I don’t like this movie too much; however, it was really decent and a good way to start the Star Wars universe and the Original Trilogy. There were plenty of things I liked in the movie, but there were also other things I didn’t like in the movie. Again, I’m reviewing this as a non-Star Wars person. Here we go:

The animation: Don’t get me started with the animation in these films. Here, it is not impressive to look at, and the way those alien creatures were designed look absolutely atrocious and disgusting. I get it. It’s the animation from the 1970s and later on in the 1980s, but I still don’t like the style at all. The background scenes of the galaxy and the planets were really good-looking however.

The soundtrack: It is... okay to say the least. Not very memorable in my opinion, but I do really like the intro sequence in every movie so that’s something.

The acting: It’s not too bad. Not bad at all. However, I do not like the acting of Mark Hamill in this film. For instance, when his uncle and aunt were brutally killed off-screen and he discovers their skeletons, he doesn’t even cry or mourn over their deaths. He was like, “Oh, they died? Oh well, I’ll just go to Kenobi and help him I guess.” Luke Skywalker is just a bland character in this film. Han Solo was alright, Chewbacca was great and very likable, C-3PO was hilarious and had an awesome dynamic relationship with R2-D2, and R2 himself was adorable and amazing. Oh, and Princess Leia was really good. I like her a little more than Luke. It was nice seeing our protagonists working together to stop Darth Vader, Tarkin, and their forces from destroying the Rebel alliance.

Vader: Yes, even the villain himself was awesome to see. While I am not a huge fan of Darth Vader, he is still a really cool villain with a great backstory, motivation, and threatening atmosphere he has whenever he breathes and moves around. Man, he is such a menacing antagonist with great lines of dialogue. He stole every scene he was in. James Earl Jones does a spectacular job in voicing him. Tarkin however was boring compared to Vader. Glad that he was killed off at the end of the movie.

The action: The action was actually decent and not too terrible. However, the lightsaber fight between Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi was ridiculous. They fought like they had no idea how to use a lightsaber. It is the only lightsaber fight/duel in the whole film. Kenobi was okay in this film, but I didn’t really care much about him compared to McGregor’s Obi-Wan in the prequel trilogy. So I wasn’t upset at all that Vader killed him.

Overall, this movie was decent at best with an interesting story and plot but with mediocre animation and style. I rate it a 6/10. If you guys love this movie more than I did, I’m glad you’re happy and that you enjoyed it.

Peace.
