Greetings. Here is my review of MLP: FIM season 9 episode 5 The Point of No Return. If you ask me, it should be called “the pointless return of filler episodes”. When I watched this episode, I was so underwhelmed and completely bored out of my mind. Why did they even write this episode? While it does contain good elements therein, it is nothing more than a boring episode with Twilight annoyingly “Twilighting” and regurgitating a moral we have already heard before. Alright, let’s go:

The episode starts with Derpy delivering a box full of stuff that was found in Canterlot. Through a magic scroll, Celestia tells Twilight that she found those old items while cleaning the Canterlot Castle. Hold on a second... you’re just NOW finding her belongings in the Castle? Eight seasons later, you’re now going to conveniently discover her stuff and have her rejoin herself with those things? Additionally, how often does your castle get cleaned? How long has that box been hidden? So all this time, they never found Twilight’s belongings until now? And guess what she discovered... (gasp)... a long overdue library book she never returned!! It has never been returned for eight seasons, and BOOM! It’s finally discovered for Twilight to panick, stress, and worry about. Did Celestia know that Twilight’s library book was overdue? Did she intentionally keep it from her until now? Was Celestia trying to screw Twilight over?

Dude, stop that! You’re making Celestia look bad by asking those pointless questions!

Whatever, but I really don’t understand why this library book is such a big deal. Does it have anything to do with Twilight becoming the new ruler of Equestria? Does it have something to do with Friendship? Or will it only serve as a filler MacGuffin? We’re just passing the prologue, and I’m already asking so many questions.

Determined to maintain her record of faithfully returning library books and not wanting to disappoint her favorite librarian Dusty Pages, she goes there to return the book. To her surprise, she finds a new librarian instead of Dusty Pages. Hmm, a new character whom we shall never see again? Hooray... (deadpan voice). Anyway, Twilight hides her face because she doesn’t want to set a bad example to other book-borrowers, but Spike reminds her that everypony even princesses make mistakes. The new librarian, who knew nothing of Dusty Pages, directs them to the basement Office of Overdue Returns where First Folio works where Twilight would have to pay late fees for the overdue book.

However, they didn’t find her there as she was out for lunch at a restaurant. Unwilling to put their search for her at a later time, Twilight and Spike find First Folio at The Tasty Treat. They also meet Moon Dancer again. Very nice to see her again, huh? That’s a big bonus for me. So they learned that Dusty Pages left her job which prompted Twilight to look for her again. Horrified by the thought that she caused her to be fired by borrowing a book and never returning it, Twilight hastened her search for Dusty.

After discovering that she moved from her old home and seeing that she was not in her new home, Twilight asks the community around the area if they had seen Dusty Pages. Seeing that none of them had seen her, they resumed their search. Eventually, they found her with a guitar band whom Twilight just rudely disrupted them to talk to her. Ughhhh... TWILIGHT, LET HER HAVE HER TIME! WAIT TILL SHE IS DONE!!

Dusty Pages refuses to go back to the library which throws Twilight to despair. Thanks to Spike’s encouragement (I love you, Spike. Such a good character), Twilight decides to talk with her again to find out why she refuses to go back.

Dusty tells her that perfection is not everything, and that she felt freedom after hearing that Twilight failed to return the book. After trying to maintain a perfect librarian record for many years and seeing it broken, she realized that being perfect is not everything. Therefore, she left voluntarily to live the life she always wanted to. (Sigh) Look, that’s a great message—nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes—but how many times have we learned that already? We already have Fame and Misfortune and its We’re Not Flawless song from season 7 to remind us of that. Don’t forget Sunset’s Backstage Pass that told the same lesson all over again. The writers ran out of ideas, didn’t they?

I’m so bored with my review right now, so I’m gonna end this. It’s not worth rewatching, and it’s a boring filler episode as I already said. This episode should’ve been about Grogar and his backstory. I’m getting tired. C-

Good night, folks.

I'd given it an D.

I think the only purpose of this episode is to show that retirement home crap.
That apparently the Royal Sisters are going too(if Silver Shoals really is one or they meant to say what Dusty Pages went to) once they retire. Which makes the retirement crap even worse.

I doubt that honestly. It’s just a filler episode that has no originality and a bland regurgitation of what we’ve already seen Twilight do in seasons 1 and 2.

5325628
I think the retirement home alone is what made me not want to properly watch the episode.
The whole retirement crap really bothers me about Luna there.

5325635
I see.
What is your opinion on Dusty Pages?

5325641
I guess meh I suppose.
Didn't feel much from that pony, probably more worried about the retirement thing.
In fact its probably why I had a hard time watching "Grannies Gone Wild" due to it somehow reminds me that retirement crap looming over the Royal Sisters.

5325651
Yep.. guess looking at old ponies in general might remind me of that retirement stuff.

This episode should’ve been about Grogar and his backstory.

Well said bro! 👏👏
