Seeking her Crown: Update 2/3 · 3:33am Jul 21st, 2020
Good evening, fillies and gentlecolts!
Let's go ahead and get the shaming out of the way. Another week is down, and it's another week with massively sub-par returns on word count to report. Here's the numbers:
Start of 7/20 Shift Goal: 8,000 words
Actual Word Count: 2,192 words (5,808 word deficit)
If I am to have any hope of getting back on schedule, that means I'll have to double my scheduled average word count. Is it possible? Well, hopefully. Using a low average of 30 words per minute, all I would need would be a hair over an hour of dedicated typing in order to make those goals. It's just a matter of actually spending the time and doing the work. Come on, Shrouded. You've got a good story that people want, stop with the procrastinating!
So, I did mention in last week's blog post how I was thinking about how I wanted to write and publish the story. Those that commented said they wished for me to write and publish in a manner that was the least stressful for me, to ensure the highest likelihood that the story would actually be finished. As such, I've dropped the goal of 18 chapters with a 1k word count down to 8 chapters with a 2.2k word count. In the end, the total overall word count is roughly the same, but this schedule should keep me on a more motivated and tighter schedule to get the whole of the story out and published. I work better when the Sword of Damocles is actually hanging over my head.
In light of that, I'm going to try to light a bit of a brighter fire under me. If I can get the first ~6.6k words completed before 0800 EST on Saturday, July 25th, I will go ahead and publish the first chapter. From there, I'll be doing a weekly publishing schedule until the story is completed. Catch is, I've been writing this story by jumping around and doing various little scenes here and there. If a key part of the story peaks my interest, I jump to it to write that part. As such, well over half of the currently completed 2k words are actually from the last half of the story. If I meet my goals needed for an early release, I'll do a supplemental blog post as soon as I do. If I fall short, I'll do a supplemental blog post on Saturday morning so everypony knows they'll just have to wait until the original planned released on August 1st.
