Status Update (Plus Pony Life Thoughts) · 3:12am Jun 18th, 2020
Howdy howdy~
Just wanted to swing by real quick and let ya'll know that I'm still kickin'! The closing date for my home in fast approaching, which means a few more weeks of LIFE will need to pass before I can return to writing. I thank you all once again for your patience with me while I've been busy getting things in order!
In more pony related news; Pony Life finally released a trailer! We at last know how it looks in motion!
Aaaannnnddd it's... about what we expected, honestly. Super hyper, very silly, and a completely different tone from the original show we all know and love...
... Thank God for that.
The story of the main six, the one we followed for years, is still protected. It's very clear that Pony Life isn't going to be another chapter of that book, and instead it will be it's own thing in it's own little corner of the multiverse. It possesses cars and television in direct defiance of what we know about Equestria Prime, and already we can see that the characters are hyper tweaked versions of their original selves (except for maybe Pinkie... which adds legitimacy to my "this is all in Pinkie's head" theory haha) unlike with a certain Go franchise where the "characters" are simply vehicles for jokes.
I'm 100% sure Pony Life is going to split our shrinking fandom down the middle just like Equestria Girls did so very long ago. I'm also 100% certain the Teen Titans Go comparisons are going to run rampant too... Unlike with Go, however, I think MLP can do the idea better; I think the girls are strong enough characters on their own to survive this chibification, and to be entertaining in their own way regardless of form or world.
I have no reason to be as optimistic about this as I am... but damn it all 2020 sucks enough as is and I want SOMETHING to look forward to!
Well... That's all I wanted to say! Thank you for your time as always!
Until next time,
-Derply
P.S. I think I like Pony Life Applejack more than FiM Applejack but I can't for the life of me figure out why yet... Maybe it's because she's more animated in this trailer than she was in the original show, pun intended
Applejack was cursed with being the sane character. Makes her seem boring by comparison.
Good to hear you're still kickin.
I get the feeling they still don't know what to do with Applejack -- likely the reason anyone found her less than appealing in the show -- so they're going with "whatever, just make her funny".
Meowdy.
Thanks for the update Derp, I took a look at the trailer myself as well; the levels of Teen Titans GO vibes I'm getting from it aren't giving me any confidence that Pony Life will have the same level of depth that the original show had but that's probably the point and I'm silly for critiquing the shift.
I'll definitely watch the show, but I'm praying that the art style is just a red herring, and we'll still get some sort of solid writing rather than compilations of ponies doing silly things while looking cute
to sell Hasbro's toys. Also, Applejack is the best silly pony. So of course she fits better in a silly setting.
I am not trusting Pony Life at all. IT CAN GO TO HELL AND DIE FOR ALL I CARE!
Great to hear from you!
I noticed how games, cartoons, etc, with beloved and well written stories get massacred or flanderised in the writting departement, with the modern sequels or addaptations.
Like, for example, Teen Titans Go, Borderlands 3, Mortal Kombat 11, Sonic Forces, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them 2, so on.
Im glad that Pony Life doesn't seem to follow this trend.
When will you update a cog in the machine
