    Check In

    Afternoon/evening folks!

Sorry I haven't been checking in as often as I should; rest assured I'm not dead, I'm still here, just been silent as of late. Still working on fics, but also constantly debating with myself on what to focus on next, wanted to make some new stuff that isn't just Shattered or Star Wars. Wanna bring more folks in, do somethin' new.

    Top Ten Films/Series Of 2023/Reflections

First off, Happy New Year's Eve everyone!

Hard to believe another year has passed, hasn't it? *sighs* how time has flown by. A lot's happened this year; more stories, more creativity and entertainment has come, and I've learned more about myself, and I am very glad for that.

Nancy Drew Danger On Deception Island Review · 2:24pm Jun 2nd, 2020

I meant to do this review back in my older location, but with real life plans in the way, and constantly trying to deal with packing and preparing, I couldn't get around to it. But now I can!

You all know by now that I love the Nancy Drew games, it was a big part of my childhood. I'll never forget the first day I was exposed to this game, when I saw a glimpse of it while my sister was playing it on her PC. It looked awesome. And eventually, as time moved on, I became more and more interested in the world of Nancy Drew, so I got some games for myself to play as well. They were awesome as well. So I wanna talk about one of the ones I hold dearly, an older one at that. Prehistoric, I might at.

Let's take a look at Danger On Deception Island!

Danger on Deception Island takes place on, well, Deception Island in Washington State. Nancy Drew is invited to go a whale-watching tour with a friend of her friends, Katie Firestone. But it seems as if someone has vandalized Katie's boat, and has left several death threats telling her to 'stop meddling'. Seems as if there's a massive divide among the residents of this island over the situation of an orphaned orca, and now Nancy must uncover what's going on out here in this strange island...

Now I'll be honest, even for as old as this game is, I still love it to death. And it's a game from 2003! :rainbowwild: Back when PCs were white! :derpytongue2:

As far as the story goes, it's nothing special, but I was into it. It kept me engaged, though maybe it's cause of the atmosphere and characters which are a positive in my book.

I don't know how many people feel, but I absolutely love the atmosphere of this game. It's out in a harbor, it's gloomy, it's foggy and misty, it's a great atmosphere. And the music I feel adds some more to this atmosphere, I will never get bored of the soundtrack. It always gets me set in the mood. Seriously, listen to some of those tracks, really nice to hear.

The locations are pretty nice too. Probably my favorite spot to go to is the Hot Kettle Cafe

This place always looks so warm and cozy to me. I just wanna curl up with a nice cup of hot cocoa, sit at a booth or on the couch, enjoy the ambience of people having some good food and drink and just... let my cares just melt away... Ahhh... relaxing.

The characters, while nothing complex, are still great, and there's plenty of details within our four suspects to keep you guessing and wondering if any one of them could be the potential culprit.

I think the biggest problem in the game has to be some of it's puzzles. Now Nancy Drew is nothing without it's puzzles, but some of these aren't the best. Even more so when you start off with some that aren't the best ways to start the game. I think that's the biggest problem, some of these puzzles aren't particularly great, and I ended up having to look up a walk-through just to make sure I was doing things right.

The graphics, I do admit, also show their age, but since it's from 2003, I think that's to be expected with such an old game. ... Geez, from all the way in 2003, I feel so old :raritydespair:

And the last thing I'll mention is the culprit itself; now admittedly, looking at most of these clues, I think it should have been obvious who it was, but there was still some clues that threw off who the villain was, so that's some good.

Really, I have nothing else to say on this game. Looking back, it's an okay game. Nothing spectacular like some of the games we get today, but it's still a decent game. If you want a regular mystery game with nothing too big or just something simple to pass the time, I'd recommend this one. Preferrably on Steam, I was able to get it on there. Also you cannot trust Her Interactive anymore soooo... yeah.

I give Danger on Deception Island a 7 out of 10. Nothing great, but still a fun little experience I was happy to relive and finish. Thanks for reading, and have a great day. And hey, it's June! We're hittin' summertime people! :yay:
