Dumb Idea: a pony with an invisible cutie mark whose special talent is turning invisible
Cool Idea: A pony with a cutie mark that’s invisible under regular visible light but lights up under UV light whose special talent is catching or seeing things other people have missed. Naturally, said Pony is a detective.
Okay, that's a very cool idea. Do it.
Cool
Very cool indeed!

I would only be able to do one of those short scene stories. Novellas I try to write always die sad deaths.
5269875 Something like this could be done Monk-style, with all the details that other ponies skip over keeping her from having a normal life. I've used a variant of this with Grace, who has literally photographic memory, so she *can't* forget anything which isolates her since the defense for that is to not see anything she might not want to see.
It's sad, but I ship her immediately with Brick, a character I'm toying with for the Night Mares sequel, who has a special talent of damping other ponies' special talents. It's not original, because it's a mix of Lyle and Harold from the PS238 comic.

I apologize, but who are grace and brick?
5269920 Oh, don't apologize. Brick is unpublished and just an idea right now.
Grace had a couple of bit parts in my stuff starting with staring in The Night Guard - Night Mares, then I found her so useful I used her in Equestria:1940, Farmer Bruener Has Some Ponies, Royal Exam, Substitute Librarian, and Letters From a Little Princess Monster. Thankfully, I only pay her SAG scale.
5269920 Hey, if you *want* me to write the story, I can.
Murder at the Brickyard
She's a former police detective who was sidelined when an injury at work sent her to the asylum. She lost her husband, her child, her job, and her only chance at normality in a single instant. Now there's a serial killer stalking Manehattan again, and the police have brought her out of medical retirement in the hopes she can solve the case before more citizens die. Her only chance for anything resembling a normal life again rests on a traffic officer who has been teetering on the edge of being fired for several years now, but now the serial killer is stalking them both, and it has become a race to see who will survive and who will die.

I don’t picture Equestria as having quite as shitty and unjust of a mental health system as America.
Did the CMC ever consider this career? You've now got me thinking about possible sequels to Invisible Shades of Rainbow.
Haha, this is more extensive, but I did once have Maud's cutie mark fluoresce under UV light, since many diamonds do that.
5270094 Hey, he could write a short story about the CMC helping this pony discover the meaning of their invisible cutie mark. That'd be a simpler thing to write, right?
