Commissioned Art: Ride into the Sunset · 11:29pm May 24th, 2020
I'm almost finished with my art commissions. I promise
As being trapped indoors restricts me from going out and doing things that make life worthwhile and enjoyable, I have been trying to express my wishes through art commissions (along with ordering art commissions for the sake of art but I digress). For this drawing, I decided to hire hire the artist, Riouku, for the first time. I had been following her on Deviantart for a bit (the Eclipse version is starting to grow on me) when she made open commissions available. I had never worked with her before, but I enjoyed her art, so I decided to give it a try, and I must say I am not disappointed!
I really hope to get out and feel the sunset's breeze this summer, but, if I can't, at least Spike and Sweetie Belle can .
Here are three versions, the differences being Sweetie's outfit. What do you think? Do you like them? Which one is your favorite? Please, let me know!
Def version 2. White dress matches the most.
Honestly I prefer the yellow dress. It just really stands out to me.
From a compositional point of view, I'd say the white dress works the best. The red and yellow ones sort of fade into the sunlight, while the white one has the most contrast.
As for Eclipse, I bit the bullet and started using it a few months ago. It does take some getting used to, especially when they kept messing with the UI, but I've more or less adjusted. I'll miss the old UI, but maybe it won't be completely awful once they work out the bugs.

I feel that version shows the most vulnerable Sweetie Belle. She's scared and unsure but feels warmth and comfort while holding on to Spike. She feels safe.
That's how I view that one.

With the yellow version, I feel like Sweetie hasn't confessed her feelings to Spike, yet. They trust each other and care deeply for one another, but they haven't reach a romantic level, at least not officially. That version makes see Sweetie as shy but taking a bold step forward by wrapping her arms and resting her head on Spike, slowly building up to reveal the truth.
Those are my thoughts.

That version does contrast the background the most, I agree. I think it shows her as being a little vulnerable.
I've had the Eclipse version on my phone for a few months and thought it was okay. The desktop version we're now forced to use took some time, but it's growing on me. Turning the theme into night helped out for me.
These are beautiful artwork!
And I agree with the others, I think the one with the white dress works the best! Although I like the red one too...

Thanks! It's okay; you can like more than one
With the redish/purpleish dress, I see Sweetie as a bit more confident. She has her fears and insecurities, but she does not runaway from them or deny them, including her feelings for Spike. In that version, she and Spike are already together and are going wherever their hearts desire, together.

Huh. I never thought that the colors of Sweetie's dress representing her emotions. That's actually pretty clever!
What about white and yellow? Just out of curiosity.

Well, they don't officially represent anything; that's just how I perceive (crazy person, I am).
The white/blue is blank. Sweetie is vulnerable and unsure. She doesn't know where to go next, but, as she holds on to Spike on that motorcycle, she feels a sense of comfort and warmth around him, and, slowly, her fears begin to fade away.
The yellow one is bright like the sun. She is growing up and slowly coming to terms with herself. She already has life experience and is starting to become a beautiful woman. She hasn't confessed her feelings to Spike, yet. They trust each other and care deeply for one another, but they haven't reach a romantic level, at least not officially. That version makes me see Sweetie as shy but taking a bold step forward by wrapping her arms and resting her head on Spike, slowly building up to reveal the truth.
