Just a bit of an update so people know that I'm doing okay.

I turned 30 on the 11th. Feels kinda strange. Three zero. My twenties are behind me, and I don't know what's in front of me. The economy was booming. Everything seemed fine. And now, this. I'm lucky I still have a job. Essential services. Can't get rid of us so easily. Then again, me and my coworkers are right on the front lines. Just the nature of public transportation.

    Change of Name

I figured it was time to retire my old moniker. Start fresh, as it were. New decade, new me.

Revanchism Soundtrack - Commodore Layer Cake

This one's been on the back burner for quite some time, but since I've been on vacation the past couple weeks, I finally worked up the energy to finish it. As a bonus, you get to see what a Dragoon's armor actually looks like.

Credit goes to 1Jaz for the amazing art I commissioned from him! Absolutely stunning as always.

    Revanchism Soundtrack - Seneschal Arka-Povis

I do amateur composition stuff, so I figured, why not make a soundtrack for Revanchism?

I had this theme for the big baddies from my fanfic kicking around in my head, and I couldn't get it out of my damn noggin, so I had to load up my DAW and actually make it into a track.

I’m a Patreon Subscriber now, yaaay!

I’ve got to say, FIMFiction is a damn impressive site. I’ve fiddled around with setting up LAMP stacks and deploying PHP web apps and all sorts of things, and a site like this? The back-end code is the heart and soul. And what does FIMFiction offer to authors? A WYSIWYG editor that lets you seamlessly save work straight to the database at the touch of a button, like draft-saving in a forum, a

Just a bit of an update so people know that I'm doing okay. · 12:32pm May 14th

I've been working on Revanchism, still, among other things. I've had some very disappointing things happen these past few months and I'd rather not go into too much detail, but suffice it to say, I burned a lot of bridges and was cut off from a lot of friends of mine. Everyone thought I was nuts for talking about the virus. I studied it in great detail, over the course of hundreds of hours of exhaustive research, and I can say, with some confidence, that I know more about what COVID-19 does to the human body than many doctors in the US do. I'm not going to go into detail here. I'm not going to link my research or talk about it in public on here. Way too many people have openly attacked me over this. If anyone wants any details, they can contact me directly, in private.

Work on the next chapter is proceeding as planned. I had to take a bit of a break. Not just from writing, from everything. De-stress and decompress. I just wasn't doing too well.

Anyway, I just went back and fixed the capitalization on a bunch of titles and ranks and stuff in previous chapters of Revanchism, trying to keep everything in a consistent style. Just some minor fixes. Nothing serious. It was a little time-consuming because capitalization of rank differs depending on context. Whereas before, my rule was to capitalize all ranks, now, ranks are only capitalized when at the beginning of a sentence or situated before a name, which is more correct (i.e. "Sergeant Storm." "Hey, sergeant." "Oy, sarge"). Can't just hit find and replace on all of them, of course.

Another thing that I've done is thrown the names, ages, species, ranks, coat colors, and other attributes of my characters into a spreadsheet. I'm up to 80+ named characters and keeping track of all of them in my head without any notes is getting a little difficult. I keep writing along just fine, and then I name a character who hasn't been seen in a while, and it's like, how old are they again? What color was their coat? What sub-species were they? Having things all in a spreadsheet makes it a lot easier. Also, I imported the rest of the stuff from my old files, for the story bible I've been working on. That should help make things a little easier.

I like to schematize stuff in great detail, as you guys know. I keep a bit of a database on all the weapons and vehicles and stuff in the series. It needs some serious work, though. When you have this much stuff in a series, it helps to maintain extensive notes. It may not seem like a big deal to know exactly how many cylinders and how many liters of displacement a particular armored vehicle's engine may have, until you need to call it out in the narrative as "the roar of the six-liter V12", or whatever.

So, in short, I've done about 5k words on the next chapter, revamped capitalization in previous chapters, worked on my notes and character spreadsheet, et cetera. Just some basic tidying. Previously, I used Scrivener and kept everything in a single database, but I switched to using Office 365 for a number of reasons. Namely, Scrivener's Windows version is way, way behind, and their Dropbox sync is horrible. Word allows for asynchronous editing over the cloud, like Google Docs. Way better. The tools are just plain better, too.

I hope everyone is doing alright. One of my buddies at work? His uncle just came off the ventilator after four weeks. A fellow employee in a different department passed away, because of COVID-19.

Sound off if you're doing okay and staying safe. My thoughts are with all of you.

If you want to know more about the virus, pop me a private message, and I'll tell you what I know.

Good to see you're doing okay. With everything that's happening, we need to stay as strong as ever.

I'm glad you're still working on Revanchism. I've been trying to keep writing myself (original stories, not fimfic) to stay productive. Is there any chance we can get a look at this story bible? I'm asking because I'm a sucker for lore repositories. If not, that's okay; Revanchism on its own is gloriously satisfying.

Happy your alive, sorry to hear about the lost friends, and I hope you have not jumped into some mom face book group conspiracy, good luck I hope you stay safe out there.

Damn right. I've been trying to stay isolated. I've got a small stash of gear, just in case things turn south. Some people think the danger's passed now that we're all indoors, but really, this is an exceptionally fragile situation we're in right now. 33 million jobless claims in the US. Meat packing plants forced to shut down. Look at the market. It's chaos. Having some food on hand just in case is better than not having it, that's for sure.

A lot of my notes are not exactly prose-quality stuff at the moment, but I was thinking about polishing them up and doing something like a wiki eventually. :pinkiecrazy:

Not quite. I actually got into some lengthy discussions with some PhD virologists and biologists and stuff, and we unraveled the pathology of the virus. Sadly, when I've tried warning other people, it's led to a bit of a backlash because of how alarming COVID-19's effects on the body actually are. I'm not going to publicly share my research here; people should PM me if they want more details, but there is one article I know of that's from a trustworthy source that explains most of it:
