    Finally made it to Babscon

What a long strange trip it's been. This is much harder to do on the fly with a disabled girlfriend than flying solo. Honestly it's a good lesson but yeah I'm here I'm queer and I'm ready to party with my peers and also apparently work at the conop's desk for the next few hours once I get GS electric wheelchair out and charging. As always look for the short fat white guy currently with a beard

    BABSCon 2024

Facebook places who's going to Bay area brownie spectacular convention at the end of the month? It'll be my first pony convention in like 2 years almost cuz finances have been shit and I've been taking care of my disabled girlfriend etc but she is going to be coming with me and going to her first Brony convention since 2013 Equestria LA, when she was harassed a bunch and dealt with a ton of

    On Death

I call myself a hopeful agnostic. I vigorously want there to be an afterlife, where there's joy, justice, and fellowship for all God's creatures, great and small. I am unbelievably terrified of the prospect that one day I will cease to exist. And I want so desperately for all entities across space and time who have felt hurt and pain and suffering and helplessness and confusion and fear to feel

Does wanting tens of millions of shitty people executed make me a bad person or just an honest one?

EDIT: Note: When I'm less edgy I switch this from "executed" to "sent to reeducation camps so they can learn to be less shitty people".

EDIT EDIT: I hate myself and I hate all the suffering in the world.

i mean, it depends on your view of 'shitty people'
if it refers to people who shit then you're evil:rainbowwild:

It makes you who you see yourself as. Because I can see you any way you want me to but in the end, who you are is your choice.

A little of both. I understand that life is frustrating and you want good things to happen, but killing people you don't like shouldn't be the fantasy you need to have in order to imagine life being better.

The only good cop is a dead cop.
The only good ICE agent is a dead ICE agent.
The only good landlord is a dead landlord.
The only good billionaire is a dead billionaire.
These are the facts.

Killing people is bad, mmmkay?

I'm a utilitarian, and objectively the world would be massively better without certain people in it.

All our demons are someone else's angels.

You're delusional. You're removed from reality. And your blind ignorant rage is a threat to our society. Being a communist, actually, has little to do with this. It's just the flag you're flying under. The actual problem with you is that you're an extremist. Extremists of any kind eventually start circle-jerking themselves into believing that removing their opposers is more important than anything else... like basic human dignity, morals, principles, the welfare of society, etc. All of a sudden, all that shit goes out the window, and then it becomes acceptable to an extremist to take human lives. You're literally no better than Hitler... (or Stalin, or Mao, or Che, or Castro, but you probably like all of those fuckers - back to the part about you being delusional?)

And the sad, sad irony of your delusion, is that you believe that killing people is an acceptable solution to helping people. In your head, you make a distinction between two different groups of people, making broad generalizations based on half-truths, incomplete information, and emotionally charged opinions, and then play judge, jury, and executioner.

5260308
I have to admit, I still don't understand how you're so nice sometimes, probably most of the time, and also make such blanket statements. I'm sorry for your personal suffering, though, and that of others your sympathy for which leads you to this place.

5260384
When people are in conflict with themselves—in my case, the dichotomy between love and friendship and reality viewed through a socialist lens—they tend to violently oscillate between extremes, especially when dealing with stressors, which I am, though it doesn’t excuse me being an asshole.

5260396
Ah, thank you. And good luck, again.
(And that does remind me of a past difficult time in my own life, too, which further aided understanding, I think.)

5260384 It's probably because there's actually a decent person buried under all that brainwashing.

5260413
Brainwashing? Is there history I don't know?

5260422
No, 5260413 just doesn’t understand how anyone rational could ever possibly want to be a socialist or communist. And I don’t understand how anyone who’s done any amount of self-reflection and research could remain a conservative.

5260468
Ah, thanks.

5260310
I think most people feel that's the case, but they all disagree on who should die. It's a good thing most people don't have power.

5260413
5260468
It feels warranted to mention that The Prince wasn't Machiavelli's actual morals, it was him giving up and writing about what works.

5260518
And there are so many cases where two groups believe this mutually about each other that if everyone got their way then everyone would be dead.

Actually, there are groups who think the world would be better off without any humans in it, and some of them aren't hypocrites. Given how few people aren't in one of the groups I mentioned in the previous paragraph, I'm not sure they're wrong.

On the topic of Elon Musk. Is anyone aware of any tangible benefits of his inventions (are there any attributable to him?) or business decisions, other than the employment of the people in his companies?

Reading through his wiki page, which appears to contain a fair number of references, it all seems a bit too good to be true, which normally induces me to look for evidence that it's not true. I discovered at least one contradiction: the purpose of the OpenAI initiative is ostensibly to allow the average citizen to use AI, to prevent concentration of power with large corporations, who—I don't know—might use it to datamine people's internet habits to psychologically profile everyone, target ads and political campaigns for effectively, engage in blackmail, etc. In the next few sentences, Mr. Musk is cited as expressing "concerns about the dangers of developing artificial intelligence indiscriminately". Can one be more indiscriminate than allowing anyone to utilize AI?

This small example may not prove anything, but I get a general sense that the idealism to fact ratio is very high. Kind of like a perpetual motion machine.

5260780
well for one he did have Tesla release a large number of patents to the general public when it comes to electric vehicles, batteries, etc. and I think that's one of the few tangible objectively beneficial things he's done.

5260308
Sorry to burst your bubble, but you're objectively wrong.
The only good cop is an ideal one (i.e. one that does not exist since you can't embody that ideal)
The only good ICE agent is an ideal one (i.e. one that does not exist since it wouldn't be wanted nor necessary in an ideal world)
The only good landlord is an ideal one (i.e. a property manager and not a landlord, someone who is there to make sure people are able to live comfortably in a home that is provided for them)
The only good billionaire is an ideal one (i.e. one who has earned a lifetime total of a billion or more dollars but has put all but the bare minimum for them to live a reasonably comfortable life into selfless acts such as reducing hunger, homelessness, improving graduation rates in various countries, improving literacy rates in multiple countries, etc. for purposes OTHER than avoiding taxes)

Rather than using highly sadistic and frankly sociopathic terms such as "the only good cop is a dead one" which passively calls for killing people, you should be pushing for things to be phased out entirely. Like you've said in your post, your less edgy reeducation camp concept is frankly more ideal than execution and in the VAST MAJORITY OF CASES would be the preferred choice due to the value it provides to PEOPLE.

5260383
It's a cognitive bias that any person who wishes to improve the world needs to minimize or eliminate. We're practically hardwired to separate people into groups of "us" and "them" and it no longer benefits us.

5260468 5260479 I dunno, how else does one become a communist? I suppose you could argue the same for becoming a conservative. It's the matter of forming an opinion based on information and experiences. And experiences are seen through a lens created by opinions formed by information. Information, however, can be false. That's what brainwashing is, ultimately. Bombarding a person or people with false information. Also, I'd like to point out that I'm not the person who's so 'opinionated' as to call for the murder of several thousands of people. So, really, is brainwashing off the table here? I think not.
5260576 Pretty much exactly what I said.
5260780 Does he need to benefit society beyond providing employment?
5261089 Unfortunately, we do not live in an ideal world. It's nice to work towards an ideal, but not to detriment of society.
5261090 Hmm, yeah. I won't disagree with you.

5261137
I am extremely relieved to see that that color scheme does not in fact belong to a “Landlord Pride” flag, because I had to check.

5261133
Ah, and thanks for your clarification/further explanation.

5261133

No, but he talks a lot about how it's his goal.

5261133
That's the point I was making. There are ideals for things and we can't quite reach them, but choosing a nuclear option simply because you can't realize that you can get very CLOSE to those ideals displays a surprising lack of empathy for other humans as well as a level of pessimism that will lead to failure later down the line.

5261196 Exactly, he talks a lot.
5261420 Ah good.
