“If you’re worried about not getting the most that we can do with the resources we possess, then why not start saving your magic and enchantments to help us?” I asked, hoping to make the moment more interesting.
“Yes, but for now, we need a good plan. Let’s find something that can help us reach the other side sooner, and then we can go to work on that after the ritual session.”
“That will take us back to our home,” I replied.
With some effort, I had my vision cleared away and put my head down toward the door.
“Go, go, go,” I said.
“Come, come, come,” Lestidae said back.
“No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no” I stammered.
Lestidae looked at me and the door to my home flashed open. I quickly walked over and I entered the empty house.
“Welcome home,” said Lestidae, looking at me with great wonder.
“Welcome home?”
“Yes,” she replied, waving a hoof at me.
Lestidae then let out a raucous giggle and then put her hoof to her own chest.
“What’s a 'giggle?” I asked.
“The way I’m feeling just now, a ‘giggle,’ I might become a good pester," Lestidae said.
“I think so,” I said.
Lestidae then took an alicorn form and smiled.
“Oh, that sounds wonderful,” I said.
“You can have it,” Lestidae said.
“Yeah, I’ll have it.”
“Well worth a little magic,” I said.
“A good way to make friends is a simple one… even if you only have friends to help, still…”
“…you could do with another little friend as well,” Lestidae said.
Lestidae was happy.
“I know.”
It would be a good idea! So that I could get my friend back? “You mean, even if I’m going to be alone? We’ve always looked past the possibility of companionship as a means to get through life…”
Lestidae nodded. “Yes, yes. As we grow older, we will begin to see that there is often a need to look beyond things and other ponies more important than you and just… being alone. If not for your friends and family, I don’t think we would be where we are now,” she said.
The thought was difficult for me to accept. I had never before seen such a lack of friends and family.
I’d been friends with a changeling before… the last one. She had had an entire family in a matter of weeks… just the thing to make it seem comfortable to me.
“You were not with me when I left my home for the forest…” Lestidae blinked.
“I was, but I had a few days of rest, and then I went… I fell… I was injured. I spent a lot of time in hospital, and a lot of time on the hospital floor. I’ve suffered damage in my life as a result of that, and I can see it.” Lestidae blinked a few times. “I think I’m going to need to…”
Lestidae gave a wide smile and then gave a tiny nod before giving the nod again.
I could use the rest. And I’d like to think that my friends would be here for me as well… “I have a few ideas. I’m going to have a little conversation with Lestidae as we work through this part of the ritual…” Lestidae went to leave.
Lestidae held out her hoof to Lestidae.
‘Hi there,’ I called out to her.
Lestidae nodded. ‘Thanks.’
I took a quick look at her hooves, and as luck would have it, both of them were filled with a bright yellow glow.
