Ever had the feeling of doing something wrong? · 2:58pm May 6th, 2020
Lately I’ve been super busy, and I didn’t have much time to write my story, so that really sucks. I also fear something. To find success in this site, you must start strong or get lucky and get at least more than 30 likes for your story to be noticeable. The few time that I spend reading was great. All around fun for me. But I fear that my story won’t get noticed by anyone and will never get popular, and without it being popular, nobody will read it, which saddens me. And then, when I finish a chapter I feel really satisfied and go to read another story, but I notice something. This stories are so much better than mine! So I feel a bit sad, since I don’t think my story is as noticeable as others, since it doesn’t have a thumbnail? (You know, the first picture you can see from the story), and you know what’s the most frustrating thing? That I know what I gotta do. I know where my characters will go, what’ll they do and the situations they get into. I already have that worked out. But I don’t have the skill to bring it to life! It’s so frustrating, and I wish I was better at writing. But don’t think this is the end for me. I’ll never give up, because if someone gives up, all hope is lost! And hope is too important to lose! So, wish me luck and tell me your thoughts.
I'll tell you a secret that not many know about me. The secret is: I can't write.
What I can do, and what everypony can do, is: I can edit.
Don't try to write a good story. You'll fail. Every first draft sucks.
Instead, edit the hell out of it. I edited my stories even over 200 times. Edit them until you can read through them without having an urge to change anything. Edit them until you read them and think to yourself, This is perfection incarnate.
Don't worry about not being a good writer. You don't have to be. All you have to be is a persistent editor.
Bad Dragon's right.
Perfection is the enemy of Good.
I don't know if you saw my "5 Steps to Writing" seminars, or the writing blog I have, but consider checking those out: they're filled with advice, including on getting people who will like your stories to read them, which is something that's important to me because I also have trouble working on stories I don't think will be written.
