New Audiobook of Wyrmlysan! · 1:14am May 3rd, 2020
If you're here on FiMFiction, it almost certainly means you like to read stories. But what about listening to stories? Ponyfiction has a deep and talented body of fanfic readers, and if you enjoy audiobooks, you no doubt know at least a few of their names.
Well, they all teamed up and did a reading of my prophecy-themed tragedy. Behold: Wyrmlysan, the dramatic reading!
No, seriously, I wasn't kidding when I said they all teamed up. This is an absolute who's-who of fanfic readers, starting with Luna Farrowe's perfectly reserved yet entirely engrossing work as narrator, Scribbler's positively spine-tingling interpretation of Luna as she drifts towards becoming Nightmare Moon, and the inimitable basso profundo of Illya Leonov giving the dragon's voice incredible depth and heft. Even Luna's guards get all-star treatment, with ShadowofCygnus and Neighrator Pony making Cirrus and Azure shine, and doing an amazing job of bringing out their distinctions and feelings in just a few lines. They play off of Luna and each other wonderfully, really leaning into the tension until you could cut it with a knife.
I'm always a little humbled when someone asks to do a reading of something I wrote, as Illya Leonov did. And it's always gratifying to hear the finished product. But this reading is downright incredible, and if you enjoyed Wyrmlysan, you owe it to yourself to check out this audio interpretation. You can hear the dedication and care put into every sentence; this crew took my words, and made them their own. The result isn't just edifying for me personally: it's stunning entirely on its own merits, and I'm blown away by what these guys and girls have done.
