More headcanon!

I'm rewatching season five right now, and I realized there are a lot of tertiary characters named "Flare". So...

and

are obviously related. Sisters perhaps, or more probably cousins.

Meaning Sunburst and Spitfire are either first or second cousins.

Bonus headcanon:

is also related, probably making her Sunburst's cousin if not sister.

I'd be surprised if no one's already thought of this. :B

Well, Flare's up there in the "Lightverb" school of unicorn names along with Sparkle, Glimmer, Shimmer, etc. Which means Stormy may be the odd mare out here. And speaking of Shimmer, factor in Sunset's possible relation to Sunburst and we have quite the interesting family tree forming.

What makes this more plausible is more that they all look fairly similar. Naming coincidences honestly tend to feel a lot more like just that when involving ponies with such radically different residences and careers and stuff. It feels like assuming that everyone with a slightly common last name could be related. When you have a sun-themed ruler and unicorns still tend to have celestial names, 'Flare' doesn't sound like it could be that uncommon of a name. It doesn't feel like it would have the same vibes as Garys in the UK.

I'm not trying to burst your bubble, extended family headcanons are fun but sometimes they get a little crazy with connecting ponies.
