EQUESTRIA, I'M HOME!
The song "Equestria My Home" was one of my favorite songs in the show. It has that strong sense of patriotism one might find in a national anthem. Yes, I know there was "The Heart Carol" appearing earlier, in season 2 that was supposed to serve the same purpose, but it registers as more of a carol before it registers as a song to establish a national identity. Admittedly, their national formation day (can't very well call it independence day, now can we?) is in fact a parallel to Christmas, so it'd make sense that ponies would blend those two concepts and that song does convey that feeling.
Nevertheless, I believe that if this other song were the national anthem, the Elements wouldn't have been much of a revelation for Twilight all the way back in the pilot. If my version were the full length song, yes it references the elements, but it's more subtle about it. Twilight would be excused from not knowing the full song because they only start showing up in the second verse. (Now that I look at the lyrics to "The Heart Carol," they don't start showing up there either. But they are still a bit more prominent than in my lyrics.)
