One of my favorite fanfics ever was A RWBY Zanpakuto by Azdoine on fanfiction.net, a Bleach / RWBY crossover. A few years ago, several of her fics, including that one, disappeared from the site and Azdoine completely ignored my messages asking why. In 2018, she eventually posted that she deleted most of her stories because she was ashamed of them, but they were available in other sites. I found the fic on the Russian site fanfics.me (it was in English) and was satisfied. I would occasionally reread it just to bask in its glory once again. Today, I decided to reread it again, only to discover it has been deleted and completely disappeared from the Internet. Now I am sad, angry, and regret that I didn't copy and paste it to my computer while I had the chance. Do any of you have similar experiences of lost stories?

A summary of the fic from memory and what I put about it on TV Tropes so it is never forgotten (apologies but I don't remember everything): The story is a retelling of Bleach but with certain characters replaced or combined with RWBY characters, and the characters are a lot smarter than canon. When Urahara throws Ichigo into the shaft to find his Zanpakuto before he turns into a Hollow, he doesn't find Zangetsu. Instead, he finds Baragetsu (Crescent Rose), a scythe/sniper rifle whose spirit looks like Ruby Rose. As the story progresses, he awakens three other Zanpakuto. Baragetsu represents his Shinigami powers. Myrtenaster is a rapier whose spirit looks like Weiss Schnee and represents his Quincy powers. Gambol Shroud is a katana/gun/chain scythe combo whose spirit looks like Blake Belladonna and represents his Hollow powers. Ember Celica is a pair of shotgun gauntlets whose spirit looks like Yang Xiao Long and represents his Fullbring powers.

When the "Rescue Rukia from Soul Society" arc happens, Orihime and Chad are a lot more powerful because they trained more and Orihime is braver and learned how to teleport short distances. There was a powerful moment where Ichigo keeps arrogantly tanking attacks due to thinking his powers make him invincible, so Weiss has to tell him, "It's a bad thing, because you have no understanding of your own mortality! Your willpower does increase your reiatsu, which does increase your ability to survive and use techniques. But even with all the willpower in the world, you can't win everything! You have to fight smarter, not just harder!"

Uryuu Ishida manages to kill Mayuri Kurotsuchi and absorb him to gain his knowledge. Nemu Kurotsuchi has Penny Polendina's looks and powers because she was made from Mayuri's research on Quincys. Over the course of the story, she and Uryuu eventually fall in love. Orihime helped Yoruichi take on Soifon. I forgot what Chad did, but Ichigo eventually gains Baragetsu's Bankai, saves Rukia from execution, and battles Byakuya, which ends similar to canon. When Aizen reveals himself and tries to take the Hogyoku from Rukia, Ichigo manages to challenge him enough to force him to use his Bankai. Aizen's Bankai, Motsuka Kakogetsu, basically makes his sword completely unblockable because anything his sword touches gets erased like an illusion. He almost kills Ichigo with it, but Weiss manifests herself and takes the hit. Fortunately, Orihime manages to restore her. After Aizen escapes with the Hogyoku, the damage he did to Rukia's soul makes her start Hollowfying, but Ichigo slaps Kenpachi's energy draining eyepatch, which he stole after defeating him, on her to help her get control of herself. She ends up becoming a Visored and receives training from them.

Tatsuki Arisawa is revealed to be a Fullbringer, with her object being her martial arts gi which enhances her physical attributes. She is taken in and trained by XCution, who appeared a lot earlier than canon. Cinder Fall is Kugo Ginjo's girlfriend. XCution also takes in and offers to train Ichigo, Orihime, and Chad. When the friends realize XCution is just using them, they take them on. Tatsuki defeats Tsukishima in one of the most stunning upsets. Tsukishima boasted that he's unbeatable because his Book of the End lets him see and change the future and the past. Tatsuki simply attacked too fast for him to react and gave him a low blow, quipping, "You should have had the foresight to wear a cup." Then she swipes the Book of the End and gains its powers. Unfortunately, Cinder kills Orihime and escapes, abandoning Ginjo to be killed. By the time the fic ends, she is still at large.

Meanwhile, in Hueco Mundo, Aizen orders Aaroniero to eat Grand Fisher. Just as he planned, this causes Masaki Kurosaki, whom Grand Fisher had eaten, to take over Aaroniero's body, even supplanting Kaien Shiba, because Aaroniero is a Gillian and the strongest soul is always in control. Aizen tortures Masaki with his illusions until her mind breaks and she becomes his servant.

I can't remember why Ichigo and his friends entered Hueco Mundo because they didn't know about Masaki until she reveals herself. Ichigo, Chad, Uryuu, Tatsuki, and Rukia (can't remember if Renji went) manage to defeat several Arrancar. Ulquiorra was given an upgrade by the Hogyoku so that his body adapts to attacks and he can't be harmed the same way twice. Ichigo has to pull out all the stops to kill him.

Masaki reveals herself and attacks them, being uber powerful as she has Kaien Shiba, Aaroniero, and Grand Fisher's powers as well as her own. While they are preoccupied with her, Aizen and his troops march toward Karakura Town. Isshin Kurosaki appears in Hueco Mundo to help them with Masaki, then an Arrancar named Raven Branwen appears to help as well. It is revealed that back when Isshin and Masaki were married, they met Raven and found she was peaceful. They got into a three-way relationship, but when Masaki gave birth to Ichigo, Raven became jealous and depressed because Hollows cannot have children, so she abandoned them and returned to Hueco Mundo, though she didn't join Aizen's army. Their reunion is awkward, then eventually, Raven tells them to leave Masaki to her and to stop Aizen.

In the battle of Fake Karakura Town, Coyote Starrk and Lilynette's roles are filled by Roman Torchwick and Neo, and they eventually abandon Aizen and escape. At one point, Rukia used her Bankai. While facing Urahara, Aizen gives this chilling reveal, "Kisuke... One rainy day, centuries ago, you wished for an equal that you could be matched against. Because you were lonely, oh so lonely, isolated by your power. And the Hogyoku heard your desire, and created me. I was made for you, Kisuke. All of this was done for you. I am the manifestation of your loneliness and your will to power. I am a perfect avatar of the Hogyoku, and I always have been."

Urahara becomes too shocked and depressed at the thought that it is his fault all of this is happening and is easily defeated. After wins and losses on both sides, Aizen heads toward the real Karakura Town. I'm not sure but I think Gin and Tousen died the same way as in canon. Ichigo and Isshin train in the precipice world to fully master all of his powers and get all four of his Bankais. Baragetsu gives him enhanced speed and lets him fire bullets and sword beams. Myrtenaster gives him power over ice, Glyphs, and the ability to summon copies of whatever he destroys. Gambol Shroud also enhances his speed and lets him create shadow clones. Ember Celica gives him power over fire and increases his strength whenever he is struck.

In the final battle with Aizen, he reveals that he has fused with the Hogyoku and it has given him Intelligent Design, the ability to alter his body whenever he wants to adapt to any situation. Combined with his Bankai, he is incredibly dangerous. Aizen also boasts that the Hogyoku was created from the wishes of every person on the planet, so it can't be destroyed until the wishes of everyone have been granted. Ichigo counters this by having Blake, inside his inner world which is infinite in size, make shadow clones until they outnumber Earth's population and all of them wish for the Hogyoku to be destroyed. Ichigo uses Myrtenaster to strike the Hogyoku with all of his strength, shattering it. This causes Aizen to disintegrate.

Afterwards, Ichigo uses Myrtenaster to summon a copy of the Hogyoku and wish back his lost friends. Then he realizes he is weary of fighting but aware that the worlds still need to be defended. So he wishes for a clone of himself with all of his skills and powers. The clone agrees to take up the fight while he goes home to finally live a normal life. The fic abruptly ends, leaving several loose ends like the fate of Raven and Masaki.
