    Soon!

I think I've used that blog title three or four times now.

Anyway! New chapter of Spectacular Seven is almost done! I was hoping it would be done this week so I could post it on Saturday, but I need to rewrite a scene. And that's before I edit it! And before Drakey edits it! The good news is...

    Ten Years, Still Here

I think back to my nascent days here, reading stories and typing out my own, hoping for the day where I could call myself a veteran of the fandom. My stories would be remembered and I would stand alongside authors like Pen stroke and Aragon.

And I look where I am now and go, ‘well, you got one big hit. Good enough.’

    Thank You

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the GoFundMe or spread the word for it. It really means a lot. Thanks to your donations and getting a little more on my first paycheck than I thought I would, I should be able to stay afloat again.

My Turn to Ask for Help

    Hello friends.

I'm trying to raise money for me and Amber Spark after we suffered an accident with a U-Haul truck. The link to the GoFundMe page is here.

And this is a big 'if'. But, if I were to do a live reading of Long Road to Friendhsip/Q and A session, how many of you would be interested? Also, what would be the best platform to do it on? Keep in mind of the following:

  • I am by no means a professional reader. in fact, I've never done this before, so expect stumbles, fumbles, and poor imitations of character voices, especially because I'm male and 95% of the cast is female.
  • I have no professional audio set up. Though my computer picks up audio pretty well.
  • It won't be through the entire story.

But yeah, give me a headcount, sound off in the comments, tell me this is a bad idea, or tell me how best not to embarrass myself. Also, my AMA is still ongoing if you want to ask any general questions.

Ciao!

I'd be interested (as long as time difference doesn't get in the way).

And if I ever find out how not to embarrass yourself, I'll let you know first.

nah. But then I never listen to readings, it interferes with my inner "assigned voice" of the character :) So take that as you wish :pinkiehappy:

Consider me interested.

If you've never recorded a fanfic reading before, I would suggest a shorter fic, <5k words at first. Then try a 20k fic. You will learn a lot about the process by doing these test runs. Then, maybe consider doing the 200k Long Road the Friendship.

Assuming 15 minutes to read 3k words, the finished product would be 17 hours long. Assume double to triple that time to record and edit down.

If you don't plan on doing the whole fic, then cut the above numbers as appropriate.

Also, FYI, Wubcake on YouTube did a reading up to chapter 11.

It won't be through the entire story.

I mean, someone's already done that...

Shouldn't stop you from the Q&A at least, I guarantee many would enjoy that.

I normally wouldn't consider listening to someones reading unless it's done by VAs, so nothing personal eh? :twilightblush: But thank you for being willing to make an effort

I might be interested, although it would really depend on how I’m feeling at the time you do it. I’ve done both recorded audiobooks and live readings, although I’ve only ever done live readings on and for the members of my Discord server, never tried to co-ordinate anything quite like this, so I’m unsure the platform. Maybe Picarto or YouTube? Those are used for art streams, but would be usable for this as well. I’ve never done streamed anything on either, but you could always ask Adge about Picarto if you run into trouble, she’s streamed there many times.

As far as some advice, don’t try to do the voices, try to do the inflection. You will not ever sound like Rarity, and trying to match her pitch will make the results comical. But you can put on that posh accent and try to match the way she talks. In general, talking softer for most women makes sense, just keep in mind the limitations of your voice (I’m kinda assuming here, as I’ve never heard your voice and some men can actually pull off female voices, but most people struggle even with vocal training).

I'm interested, but the best platform for me might be youtube. If it's elsewhere, I'll try to see if I can make do.

You might consider doing a volunteer group read. Audition people to play the various roles, and let your readers try their talents recording their favorite characters. When you find a group of voice actors you like, you run with that, while you act as the narrator.

Just a thought. :)

Not interested in live streams at all so no, but the idea quite interesting.

No one's done the whole story yet...

Seconded. More readers = less workload for each of them.

I would be interested, especially in Q&A

I'd be down, and Wubcake has done the first 10 chapters I think so she could do some

I would not be interested, but right know you are probably asking people who already read your story.

If you want to go for it, then just do it! See if that's a thing you enjoy!

I'd totally listen if i could catch it, but I work graveyard shift all week. I think it would be interesting though.

I'd be super interested at any hour of the day, I've been awake for less exciting things, and this sounds great + don't worry if it's not perfect, reading aloud is harder than we give people credit for :)
