The Dastardly Duo (also a quick check-in)

Recently, I realized that I needed to get some art for the less noble side of Set Sail. Our main villain has existed for years now as nothing more than words on a page and ideas in my head, but now we've got photographic evidence that he exists!

I made my account here exactly 10 years ago today. A whole decade of occasionally posting words about silly little talking horses and birds. I wish I had something planned but this kinda just snuck up on me. All I have is my thoughts, and I've only got one of those right now.

    I'm getting old.

Backtracking sucks · 7:37am Feb 16th, 2020

Little progress update on Set Sail's long overdue sixth chapter! Also kind of a vent post. To avoid spoiling things, my language is going to be exceedingly vague in this post.

It isn't going smoothly.

There's a scene. A scene that has some crucial details in it. It is filled with worldbuilding and aims to give a lot of dimension to the world around Mount Aris. Entire nations get introduced and developed. Situations unfold. It sets the stage for several key moments later in the story.

I've been struggling with this scene for the last month. Every approach I took with it felt wrong. The ideas were there, but I couldn't string them together in a manner that felt appropriate. And then tonight, it finally hit me. It isn't time for that scene to happen. I just shuffled the entire scene to the document for a future chapter.

I hate having to cut things out after I've written them. It's a necessarypart of the editing process, but seeing all of that effort get lopped off never feels good. I guess this is less bad since the work isn't vanishing, but most of it will likely be changed when it does come time to include this scene in the story.

After fighting it for a month, it's nice to not have it hanging over my head anymore. But that also cost me a month of progress. If I'd realized this three weeks ago, I could have had an entire chapter out by now. Feels bad.

Backtracking sucks, but at least now we're back on the right track. Writing is now back underway and should come along a LOT faster now.

Okay! vent over. If you made it this far, I thank you. Here is your reward:

That scene involving Mount Aris does sound like something that could come later. However, focus on the ones that you can do for now.

Oh, dude, can't tell you how many times I've been there in similar situations myself...heck, I'm in one right now in fact on a fic I'm currently piecing together, so I can relate. :rainbowlaugh:

Also, looks like Gallus there has some real good motivation to slurp up that spaghetti noodle ASAP now. :raritywink:

I thankles ye all for the support. Things are going a lot smoother now. I'm now aiming to get the chapter into editing by the end of the month at the bare minimum, possibly released before March depending on how fast the editors can get it done.

On the contrary, he has no idea what's about to hit him. That grin she's wearing says the tactical smooch missile is aimed right at his stupid blue face :)
