    Check In

    Afternoon/evening folks!

Sorry I haven't been checking in as often as I should; rest assured I'm not dead, I'm still here, just been silent as of late. Still working on fics, but also constantly debating with myself on what to focus on next, wanted to make some new stuff that isn't just Shattered or Star Wars. Wanna bring more folks in, do somethin' new.

    Top Ten Films/Series Of 2023/Reflections

First off, Happy New Year's Eve everyone!

Hard to believe another year has passed, hasn't it? *sighs* how time has flown by. A lot's happened this year; more stories, more creativity and entertainment has come, and I've learned more about myself, and I am very glad for that.

Predator 1987 Review · 8:08pm Jan 26th, 2020

I wish I had seen this film sooner, cause I really could have reviewed this for 80s month. But hey, you know what, we can still talk about this. Inconsistencies are gonna happen, and time management is still something that I gotta learn to handle. But enough about that! Let's talk about a pretty badass horror flick!

So Predator follows a group of military soldiers who were sent on a rescue mission, but soon find themselves in a life and death situation and a fight for survival against an unstoppable adversary.

Now oddly I knew of the Predator's existence, but I had never seen the Predator film. I knew he had a couple of films, even sparring against the Xenomorphs in that Alien V Predator crossover, and there was a remake produced in 2018. I don't know if I'll review that or not, but I think I want to talk about the original before movin' on. And I gotta say... this movie is awesome.

First credit I wanna give is to our main monster itself. This is without a doubt one of the coolest aliens developed in film; We see just what one Predator can do, and it's awesome. Not only does this guy have a cool design, but throughout the film we see his has a great amount of intelligence, strength, skill, and even honor, believe it or not.

Second thing I wanna give is the environment; this is a great setting for a horror film. It's massive, there's tons of wildlife out there, some dangerous, some not. There could be ANYTHING out there if you're not careful. Just ask poor Sue in Crocodile Dundee. It's a great setting, with a ton of atmosphere.

Another thing this film does great is with it's horror. We know something dangerous is down there in the jungle with them, but we don't see it quite yet. And as the film goes on and we slowly see the clues building up to the monster, it is dripping with horror. This unstoppable monster that's just around the corner, watching you and whipping all of it's gear on you. And it's done especially well given when we're with the main characters, we can see the amount of fear that's shaking in these guys, and it's just expressions! Most of their emotion is carried through their expressions and actions, and it's done well.

Even then, the characters are also great!

While nothing complex, they're still great characters, and they're likable enough that you want them to survive the situation they're in. And let's not forget our main man Arnold Schwarzenegger. He's just as much of an action star in this film as he was in Terminator 1 and 2.

And my god, I think the ending scene is problem some of the best damn emotions he's conveyed in the film. I'm not gonna say why but... damn.

Special effects, some look a little outdated admittedly, but some effects are still solid as ever. The music by Alan Silvestri, still solid. That theme is now stuck in my head, and it's catchy. Feels a bit like Jaws is in there.

And the last thing I will say is the story; it kept me hooked, I was interested to see where it was gonna go, I was hoping our characters would prevail, it does a good job keeping the interest in.

And that's really all I gotta say. This film is a solid horror flick. It's full of suspense, action, fear, it's everything a horror film should have. And if you haven't seen it, I recommend it. Definitely give this a watch if you haven't.

I give Predator a solid 8 out of 10. It's a solid sci-fi/action/horror film. If you're into that stuff, you'll like this one. :scootangel:

This film is brilliant, and even deconstructs its own genre in the process.

I think I have seen this incredible movie before but I am not sure if I did. The Alien vs Predator movies are also pretty good.

Really love this film! I actually watched it before going to see Alien vs Predator in 2004 (one of my absolute favorite crossover films)

Same for Alien vs Predator movies! They did such a great job them!

5192519
Indeed they did!

5192526
The movies always get me on the edge on my chair!

It's a shame that Ridley Scott had the utter nerve to convince 20th Century Fox to remove two crossovers from the series canon.

5192545
I know right! That makes me so unhappy because the aliens are apart of the Alien franchise! Shame on him!

5192549
Shame on him indeed! Let's hope Disney changes that since they now own those franchises through their acquisition of 21st Century Fox.

Yes, I am hoping that Disney does do some changes! Disney is owning alot of things now which is super incredible!

My dad absolutely loves this movie. To him it's utterly brilliant storytelling, as in his words it breaks down the story to the most simple elements over time. It starts out like a typical Arnold action movie, and then the Predator shows up and it becomes more like a sci-fi version of "Most Dangerous Game," and finally, by the climax of the movie, there's almost no dialogue whatsoever - just the hunt, and a desperate game of wits as Dutch fights to get the upper hand on the Predator.
