I had to go to the DMV this morning, which means today's theme is suffering!
Remember, capsaicin activates neurons that also detect heat and abrasive damage. Variety is the pain of life.
YOUR PAIN IS DELICIOUS. EAT IT AND GROW STRONG.
In addition to stabbing Sunset in the heart in the latest Oversaturated World story, Transmission Spectrum, I also have a new Dueling Keyboards short looking at a possible reason behind Twilight's more ridiculous phobias. You can read it here.
Did you make an appointment my dude?
Zootopia did the DMV scene best. Sloths.
Okay, I already knew that my home country takes the good bits of the US and leaves the nonsense in the trash bin below it, but getting my Photo Card was actually pretty painless? There was something involving my disability payments that took four separate visits to resolve, but that was mostly due to the strange nature of my relationship with my family at this point (to wit, I'd already cut the ties I was supposed to use to cut these ones)
I have never had a bad experience in the DMV, memes aside. Maybe it's just other states? We're technically a commonwealth...
And I just had the pack changed in the socket of a recently removed tooth. It's leaking intensly clover-flavored disinfectant into my mouth. It is almost painfully vile.

Yeah, that was pretty much accurate when going to get your license renewed, picture taken for photo id, tags/registration, etc. Or helping the ZPD run a plate as part of Officer Hopps' investigation in the movie.
Yea, DMV is pretty wretched. Its so bad around where I live I actually will drive to another county if I have to go, just because I know the office two counties over is always 5-6x less crowded. Half an hour drive each way, and I'm still done 2hrs faster.
Trampoline has the right of it. Appointments make the DMV contain much less suckitude.
Otherwise, there goes a good chunk of your day sans refund.
Though that said, I got a pretty decent cauliflower & leek recipe last time I went, so that was nice

I love how the entire message of that movie is that stereotypes are hurtful and not true and "anyone can be anything!"
And then the DMV is run by sloths who literally embody every single stereotype about them.
But then Flash is a street racer.
God, I love that movie.

an Explanation: I live in Nevada. Not the Vegas part of Nevada. The northern part. Where the state lives up to its name (Literally: "Snow Covered"). So the DMV's up here are 99% enclosed & have things like cafe's, conference rooms, and TV's running a feed on news & simple recipes.
The cauliflower/leek thing was one of them. Turned out to be stupid simple & easy to do, too
Cut your cauliflower into steaks, and array in a casserole dish. take one leek and slice it thin crossways, and layer across the cauliflower. repeat. pour 1/2 cup of heavy cream over the top, top with grated sharp cheddar cheese, cover the whole affair with tinfoil, and cook at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. remove the tinfoil, cook another 15 minutes, top with crumbled bacon, season & serve.
5187496 I've eaten green bean casserole at various Lutheran dinners/weddings/funerals/potlucks since I was a sprout, but I never actually cooked it until last night. Literally, a 35 minute dish and 30 of that is the cooking process, and so blithering easy that I hit it perfectly first time. Cooked it in our Pyrex 1.75qt bowl so I could put a lid on the leftovers and pop them into the fridge (because I'm a lazy bastard who doesn't like to wash dishes) There were no leftovers.

There's no beating the classics. Gotta dust that one off for Things 1 & 2.
I identify with that image so, so much.

I love this story. Speaking of northern Nevada, my Grandpa married his current wife in Virginia City!

I can’t wait for the second one.

Virginia City's Awesome. It's a little tourist trappy, but it's redolent with history. Taken the Things up there for a mine tour & train ride a few times. One of my favorite places on earth.

Yeah my mom and I visited when we were in the Tahoe area three or four years ago. Had a great old timey soda float.
"Shared Trauma" should totally be the name of a pony OC.

I know the place. Great ice cream there. The candy/novelty shop across the way from them is excellent as well.

Has a strong Estee feel to it.
Somehow, the State DMV has evolved and is actually quite pleasant to use. I renewed my driver's license over the internet, which was a surprise when I heard it could be done.

Of course, the real part where they set their message on fire is when they try to replace skin color with murderous impulses and keep everything else about the situation the same...
And the mafia in it embodies most of the positive stereotypes of organized crime, in that they're only a problem if you're against them, in which case you're dead.

My local DMV is good but to get the new real I'd I have to go to the bad one. :(
