I published a new book, and it's free · 10:59am Jan 15th, 2020

Transhumans, orbital rings, pet dinosaurs, and space pirates, wrapped up in a realistic take on a future of humans gone bad and science gone right.

Between January 15th and January 19th, the book is completely FREE to download in digital format. No catch, no ifs, no buts; all you need is an Amazon account and a click or two. Oh, and did I mention that my first book is also free for the same period?

If you don't have a Kindle or other e-reader device, don't worry! Amazon's Kindle app is available for desktop and mobile phones as well.

Check it out. Please.

And while you're at it, check out my newly updated website, Cottage Cheese and the Universe. I just published a blog post that serves as a little companion piece of sorts to Alice: The Mule That Changed the World. It's a short little story about the surprising historical connections between slavery, underwear, and world per capita GDP. No, really.

So here we are. That idea I mentioned almost two years ago? About imagining a future for humanity that is both completely within the realm of known science and actually positive? Yeah, that's a book now.

There is little left for me to say here; I prefer to have my works speak for themselves. Go download Alice for free now -- and if you're interested in some of the motivations behind writing Alice, check out the new blog post on my website linked above.

As for me? I'll take some well-earned rest for a bit before starting on my next book. You can keep up with the progress on that on my website, too.

Congrats on the release! I quite enjoyed the beta, and I'm looking forward to reading the final version.

Always nice to see this kinda update!

Worth checking out, says I.

Thank you all. It's an amazing feeling, finally seeing it hit the digital shelves. Hopefully I'll be able to get printed versions of both books out sometime this year, too, for those analogue shelves!

If you've picked up the book (and ever get around to reading it) please let me know what you thought, good or bad. Especially if bad, actually.

Alright so,

Cartoonishly evil bullies I get. Completely useless and unaware teachers? I have always found them pretty stupid and clichè, but I can go with it (even if in your futuristic utopia where everything is recorded, emotions can be deceted and algorithms know what's the best learning method for you, I find this trope very hard to believe), but I just reached this part of the story where this bot is beating up a 15 years old girl in school grounds and it's offending my intelligence.
Why is Laura allowed to bring a gun to school? Mind you, even just having Deacon being programmed to pin down an attacker (which I would have accepted for the sake of the story) is still rather unrealistic since I don't see a student being allowed to bring any potentially dangerous items with them, but this bot is a weapon and it's severely harming a student and leaving her with both physical and psychological damage because its owner said so. She could have died hitting her head!
Girls's that age cry for a bad grade, and here Kati is getting assaulted.
