Winter Update for Sunset of Battle

Going to be a short update.

Chapters 15 and 16 are in the final editing phases now. I'm waiting to publish anything however until after chapters 17 and 18 are done so I have the latitude to tweak 15 and 16 as needed. Once the current story arc is finished I'll start posting the chapters on a weekly basis.

    That is all...

    Like I said; short update.

    XD

    A minor alteration...

I made a minor edit to the most recent chapter. There were two little words that had become a massive pain in my arse working on the next chapter. They were, 'to her'. :twilightangry2: It was leading to rabbit holes of character arguments that spiraled into hellish domains where finding a feasible 'out' for Sunset grew dire indeed. After several attempts I've decided to just rip out the root

Nearing the end of Schola Arc, and future planning.

So, as I begin to near the final rise in action for the schola arc of Sunset of Battle I'm looking more and more ahead to what I want to do with the story and where to go next. My general plan is to do a time-skip to when they are novitiates and start the next arc in-media res. But what to do and who to have as the antagonists?

Writing Music; The Finale · 8:24pm Jan 14th, 2020

First up, I just want to thank everyone for all the wonderful support, comments, and interest in the latest chapter of Myths, and Longest Night. May be surprising, but I see almost as many new comments and likes on Longest Night as I do Myths whenever a new chapter is published.

So, I'm hard at work on the finale for Myths and Birthrights. There is a good flow at the moment to the writing, with a solid framework and structure of events, action, and the resolution. At present I'm working on the actual 'action' portion, and am looking for recommendations for the music to listen to while writing. For reference, I'm leaning towards a 'battle manga' Shonen-esque style. These are gods, demons, and titans just unleashing everything they got at each other, so going with a shonen aspect feels appropriate. They are 'Going Ham', as it were.

What I am (and have used) as writing themes for characters or scenes;

For Twilight as a whole, I've been using 'Rory Mercury - Apostle of War' since she entered the astral library and encountered Shyara.

At the moment, I've been listening to Boku no Hero Academia - All for One (extended) for the really 'Going Full Ham' portions of the chapter.

I'm looking for any music recommendations in similar themes or veins. Orchestral, low and powerful, 'Epic', so-on. It doesn't need to be music from anime, that is just what I've trended towards as of late. In the past I've used Two Steps from Hell, various power and heavy metal albums, and movie scores.

Anytime twilight “falls” I never consider epic or grand. In fact it fills me with grief and shame. Anytime it happens I hear the music that plays in the finale of Avatar : The last air bender. When Azula and Zucco have their final battle. Just my two cents.

I tend to use heavy metal often, for combat writing. "Indestructible" by Disturbed is a good one, especially if we're talking a one-man army kind of deal.
Miracle Of Sound's Divinity 2: Original Sin song is also one I like to use. He has a lot of good songs that feel powerful.

Hmm, an interesting piece. I can see a possible place I'd want to use it. Thanks!

For 'epic fight music' The stuff from the Ace Combat series is amazing. Recommend having a listen to them, very energetic. Especially the boss fight with Mr X and the Arsenal Bird from AC7.

Damn though. Been keeping up with this for years, can't imagine it coming to an end, even if it is a way off yet.

Battle shonen music? Giorno's theme, need I say more. Although it probably won't fit with myths. But seriously, Jojo's anime has some really great tracks.

I guess Johnathans theme from Phantom Blood is pretty epic and might fit more as it sounds heroic. Or the music that plays during Dio's fight at the end of Jojo part 3.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll give them a try.

Look up E.S.Posthumus. Almost any of their pieces should be suitable for epic battles between deities. But, some of the really suitable pieces are: Pompeii, Unstoppable, Durga and Nineveh.

To bring in some other genres... Maybe something with fitting lyrics? Heartstrings, by FROST* Or maybe we go more lighthearted epic with Hybrid - Just For Today. Hope some of this is to your liking.

I recommend giving Holst's The Planets suite a listen. It's got a little of everything, but especially stirring and powerful is Mars, Bringer of War. All seven movements are amazing though TBH.

Oh my, just started listening to Pompeii, and that is super fitting/appropriate music. Thanks!

I'll give it a listen! Thanks for the suggestions.

You are very welcome. And seriously; check out the rest of their songs when you have the time. They have a song for almost any event, as long as it is epic.

I’m somewhat partial to some of the songs from the Destiny 2 soundtrack and Endless Space 2 soundtrack.

Thanks! I'm enjoying the Endless Space 2 tracks, though they aren't exactly what draws me into the scenes I want to write. More esoteric and slow. I picture... Twilight falling, surrounded by shards of splintered night like pieces of a broken mirror. She opens her eyes and reaches out with a pleading hoof, but there is nopony there. Just a timeless, vast void. A sigh breaks from her, and she slowly closes her eyes as a single tear trickles down her face. Into the bleak infinity she whispers, "I'm sorry."

The words are swallowed by the emptiness encompassing her.

"There is no need for sorrow," responded an all-encompassing voice that jabbed into her like ten thousand needles of molten hot lead. "Your time ends, as all must. As time must. As the world must."

Twilight turned her head, and saw beneath her Sol. No, not Sol, but another sun, deeper orange and swathed with angry, ruby patches.

Her heart beat quicker, and she tried to beat her wings to get away from the new sun, but she could gain no purchase in the airless expanse. Something about the sun filled her with instinctual dread. It was Wrong, as nothing else could compare. Wrong in a way so alien to the mind of even a god that her senses rejected the sun. Tried to blot it out from her mind.

But, there was only her, and it.

An eye opened beneath the eggshell thin surface of the sun. Then another. And another. And ten thousand more.

Eyes of all shapes and colours, of all sizes and qualities. Eyes that pierced. Eyes that lazily stared into the void. Calculating and stupid eyes.

"Come to me, Twilight." The eyes turned into mouths. Or were swallowed by mouths. Mouths that twisted into warped, alien smiles. "Come to your creator. Come to Yol-Distoph..."

Twilight screamed.

Then there was silence again.

And only the lonely sun.

....

See! Not exactly the right kind of music. :twilightblush::trollestia: Except the Destiny 2 track. That works for what I am writing. :rainbowdetermined2:

Glad to be of help and that I read that after waking up.

I feel like Sealed Vessel from the Hollow Knight OST might fit. It starts off grandiose and orchestral, but around the halfway point becomes very sombre and mournful (it's the soundtrack for the final boss; comments have a lot of HK spoilers).
