    Finally made it to Babscon

What a long strange trip it's been. This is much harder to do on the fly with a disabled girlfriend than flying solo. Honestly it's a good lesson but yeah I'm here I'm queer and I'm ready to party with my peers and also apparently work at the conop's desk for the next few hours once I get GS electric wheelchair out and charging. As always look for the short fat white guy currently with a beard

    BABSCon 2024

Facebook places who's going to Bay area brownie spectacular convention at the end of the month? It'll be my first pony convention in like 2 years almost cuz finances have been shit and I've been taking care of my disabled girlfriend etc but she is going to be coming with me and going to her first Brony convention since 2013 Equestria LA, when she was harassed a bunch and dealt with a ton of

    On Death

I call myself a hopeful agnostic. I vigorously want there to be an afterlife, where there's joy, justice, and fellowship for all God's creatures, great and small. I am unbelievably terrified of the prospect that one day I will cease to exist. And I want so desperately for all entities across space and time who have felt hurt and pain and suffering and helplessness and confusion and fear to feel

Ever Wonder What the Inside of a Tornado Looks Like? · 6:50am Jan 14th, 2020

Well, wonder no more. Hint: It's pretty fucking hard to see.

And in case you think these guys are fucking insane, they are, but also the reason they are still around to tell the tale and didn't end up like this:

(This is the car that three storm chasers died in.)

Is because the car used in this video looks like this:

It's called a Tornado Intercept Vehicle, or TIV. And yes, it's very badass.

Huh, neat; thanks.

That's pretty insane.

That is an Anti-Tornado Tank

I was under the impression that the inside of tornadoes looked like 1939 musical classics, but this is also cool.

It is indeed. It’s 14,500 pounds AFTER they lightened it and it’s basically a mobile fortress. It literally has spikes that anchor into the ground so it doesn’t fly away.

Damn. Am I crazy if I say I wanna give it a go?

5186128
I mean, that thing has 1.5 inch thick bullet-proof glass, so if you’re in a rural area where there’s going to be a lot less debris, I’d say go for it. But also note that even though this thing is literally built like a tank, it still needed major repairs after this encounter.

I’ve been in Smith Center a few times. Not during tornado season though.

OH my goodness! I have actually seen those guys on TV!

When you're a kid and find out weather chasers are a thing, you get this little thrill of "Man, I could do that, that would be fun!" Until you find something else to obsess about or worse, hear a story about a tornado chaser dying or getting wrecked or something.

But I see that last picture and that old thrill is coming back. c.c;

I’ve seen a couple tornadoes before. In college I took a “storm-chasing” class at Indiana for an extra credit and for a couple weeks that spring we drove out into Kansas and Oklahoma looking for severe storms. We saw a couple tornadoes which was pretty cool. But from a distance of at least a couple miles, nothing like what these guys did lol.

Bear in mind that these were the first deaths from storm chasing in the like 40 year history of storm chasing, and that the El Reno Tornado was literally, pardon the expression, the perfect storm as far as being an insanely dangerous tornado.

Nice! A guy who sang with the SoCal Ponytones at BABSCon one year loved storm chasing. I should catch up with him.

Wow, damn. o.o That vehicle is still cool as shit.

Living in Kansas, I have to imagine you've had some closer than pleasant encounters with tornadoes?

5186323 We come out with video cameras to watch them go by.

You never hear a Californian say "The earthquake missed our house by about five blocks" or "I got some good footage of that earthquake"

I've seen a tornado about a mile off to the side of the interstate paralleling it, and a number of people pulling over so they can watch. (since it was running parallel, that was about the safest thing to do.) If it *hits* a house, its pretty much gone, and the best thing you can say about your earthly possessions is "Gosh, I hope somebody brings that file cabinet back." That's why most of us have our important papers inside the gun safe. Those generally don't go flying.

5186338
Yeah, I'm pretty worried since California hasn't had a *BIG* big one in some time. When it does hit there are probably going to be thousands of deaths.

Do you have a storm cellar in your house? Have you ever used it?

5186345 Enclosed basement bathroom with no windows and a staircase for support, so not bad. When we lived for ten years in the mobile home park, every time there was a tornado *watch* (not warning), the wife would bundle up the kids and down the street we would go to the concrete basement storm shelter. I'd bring a broom and sweep up while waiting, because the place was filthy. Never saw a tornado in the vicinity other than "I think that looked like one, maybe." We bought a few boxes of light bulbs over those years to stick in the sockets because the idiot kids playing there tended to knock them out and the management didn't replace. It gets *dark* down there during a storm, and I wanted a (censored) light, (censored).

5186357
Well, I'm very glad you've stayed safe.
