Ok I'm kinda confused · 7:18pm Jan 12th, 2020
So there's controversy with Jeopardy right now, so stick with me.
So there was a question on where Jesus's birthplace, the Church of Nativity in Jerusalem, is located.
Someone answered Palestine and was told they were incorrect. Meanwhile another person answered Israel and was told this was correct.
Now everyone is shouting about how inexcusable this is, and how Israel is dangerous in erasing the true history of oppressed Palestine and all that jazz.
But here's the thing. When Jesus was born, Bethlehem WAS part of the territory of Israel. So if anything, wouldn't this be the correct answer because of historical accuracy?
Kind of like is someone asked what city did Constantine make the capital of the Byzantine Empire, it would be more historical accurate to answer Constantinople than Istanbul?
Idk but I'm sick of this fighting between Palestine and Israel.
Edit: I meant Bethlehem not Jerusalem. Thx Godzilla for catching that!
IDK. Religion is sketchy and complex AF. Why do you think there are SO MANY fucking different orthodoxes?

Fair enough. My mama belongs to Eastern orthodox cause we be Russian. So... *Shrugs*
Hmm
5184934
Yep it's wack
5184942
Yeah because when I first heard of Palestine I thought it was that new geography but I can't find any nation labeled that so I assume its kinda like the Kurds? You know, people without a country basically. And they want to set up in Israel? I dunno. XD
This is ridiculous.................
5184949
My confusions or this whole debacle?
5184953
this whole debacle
5184954
Same
Just to lighten the mood:
Oppressed Palestine is ridiculous. Israel would be accurate as that is what it’s called and Palestine is a modern Islamic state that terrorists want set up.
I’d prefer historical accuracy over the current geography. So yes, I would go with Jerusalem.

If it’s stupid, people will do it. What should really make you worry is when people do something smart.
5184981
fair point..............
Well the birthplace of Jesus is not Jerusalem, it is in fact Bethlehem.
5184986
Fuck that was a mistype. XD thx for catching that
5184988
You're welcome, glad I was able to help.
5184945
Oh well lol
5184997
Probs Omar.
That is so incredibly stupid
It would be Israel
Palestine lost any right to exist when they refused the offers made by the British to take 80% of the land and give the Jews the other 20, a deal that the Jews said yes to even though it favored Palestine much more; they rejected it and a number of other deals because they were either greedy or just wanted the Jews to have nothing. They refused peace and chose war when Israel came about, then they didn't have what it took to finish the battle they started and would dare claim they were somehow victims.

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but you're actually wrong with that logic (no offense). You see, before and during Jesus's time, Israel was split into to two kingdoms; the northern kingdom retaining the original name, while the southern kingdom was called Judea. Though, the conception that Jesus was born in Israel can easily be confused, as both kingdoms have their own town called Bethlehem. The Bethlehem in Judea being closer to Egypt than the one in Israel.
For short: Jesus was born in Judea, which was later renamed into Palestine. Not Israel.
