    My Little Golem - Should I or shouldn't I?

I copied My Little Golem over to my AO3 account late last year so that I could have it in the same place as some of the other fan stories I've been writing lately. I am using the term "copied" very loosely here. I thought it would be a shame to just clone the story when I knew that it had a few issues that would benefit from editing.

    Well then...

After months of no activity on here, I've suddenly received a small flood of notifications on my two main stories. I'm not complaining, but it is definitely making me feel a bit guilty for procrastinating on my next story. I've had it written in my head for well over a year, but I've been .. otherwise occupied.

To post, or not to post?

Obviously I am leaning toward not or I would have posted it by now.

In the latter half of last year I wrote a strange, somewhat dystopian story of future Equestria under the governance of Twilight Sparkle. It is a time of peace and prosperity, ruled with love by an eternal, benevolent leader whose sanity is slipping more with each passing decade.

My Little Golem - Should I or shouldn't I? · 11:14pm Jan 1st, 2020

I copied My Little Golem over to my AO3 account late last year so that I could have it in the same place as some of the other fan stories I've been writing lately. I am using the term "copied" very loosely here. I thought it would be a shame to just clone the story when I knew that it had a few issues that would benefit from editing.

This is the point where it would be nice to have my own Class M3 Model B9 General Utility Non-Theorizing Environmental Control Robot like the one from Lost In Space to run circles around me, waggling its little sensors and shouting, "DANGER PLONQ DANGER!."

The long and short of it is that what ended up over on AO3 was not a slightly edited copy of the story, but a significant rewrite of the original. A process that I expected to complete in a couple of hours ballooned into about a week of work.

Now I am wondering if I should copy it back over here, or post it as a "new" story here. I am leaning toward the first option, but it has the downside that just copying over an old story won't bring it to the attention of new readers. On the other hand, posting it here as a "new" story would be a bit disingenuous, regardless of how different is is from the original.

I guess I could pass it off as an A.U. story of the original. "Meanwhile, in a parallel dimension where everything happened in almost exactly the same way, but presented in a much more compelling read..."

Edit: I guess it wouldn't hurt for me to put a link to the other version here.

For purposes of getting notifications and tracking read chapters, it would be most convenient for me as a reader if it was posted as a new story.

However, I am under the impression (based on no hard data) that the moderators don't like authors posting multiple versions of the same story - versions differing in rating being an explicit exception. Hence, I would recommend asking a moderator first.

Could we get a link to the AO3 story?

Yes. I'll update my post here to include the link as well.

I think I'm just going to leave the old version here and the new version over there.

Going forward, I'll post new stories to both sites.
