    Thoughts on Harakiri (1962)

Wow. This was a masterclass in buildup and tension. I knew about Masaki Kobayashi's movie before - a scathing indictment of the samurai and the honor code that they profess to live by - but all the same, watching the movie had me hooked from start to finish. :scootangel:

    Thoughts on Galaxy Quest

Finally getting around to writing up my thoughts on this one. I had heard plenty of good things about it from my parents, though I had yet to see it. Finally, we rung in the new year by watching "Galaxy Quest" with dinner.

I watched Godzilla x Kong yesterday

    And all in all?

It was fun. Good mindless monster mash of a film. Funny how much some of the stuff with Kong in the movie made me think, just a little, of Primal. If only for the lack of dialogue and the importance of character through action and expression.

    Happy Sunday to everybody

Hello all. Just wanted to check in this Sunday (Easter Sunday, for any churchgoing types out there) and wish you all well.

Hope that the year has been okay for everybody. March wasn't the best month for me, I was sick at the start of it and only around the last week have I really felt 100% again, but I'm hoping for things to pick up going forward from here.

    Best wishes, eh?

2019 in Retrospective · 2:09am Jan 1st, 2020

Here we are, folks. Last day of the year, counting down the hours until the new year is rung in.

2019. A lot has happened for me over the past 12 months, both good and bad. I've gotten to see some really enjoyable movies this year, ranging from Endgame, John Wick Parabellum and King of the Monsters as well as Detective Pikachu, to name just a few. My dad and I also finished our project of watching the Adam West Batman series, which was a lot of fun :pinkiehappy:

I got to visit my sister twice this year, once in May and then when she came over for the Christmas holiday. That was very nice, and I'm quite grateful to have had the opportunity for that. On a similar front, this year also marks the occasion that I have gotten back into regular correspondence with an old friend from my childhood, who previously had been quite busy for a lengthy amount of time. He's still busy, mind, but now we have a schedule worked out that allows for better communication. So I'm very happy about that as well

Although, as I said, this year has had its ups... and downs too. The biggest of which, I'd undoubtedly have to say, would be the summer of 2019. In fact, I'd be willing to say that I didn't even GET to really have a summer, as almost all of June and July, plus a chunk of August, was spent up in Cleveland having to help get my great-aunt (who didn't want to) go into assisted living. It was a very dreary, very draining, and very stress-inducing experience, just all around a very trying time for me, my mother and father, all in different ways. (Not helping at all, was that when I got to go home for a few weeks, I managed to break one of my toes in the first couple days when trying to do some painting. Ouch! DX)

At the same time though, I can't *really* complain about everything. We all managed to get through that crisis, at least, and while I haven't gotten to do nearly as many projects as I would have liked to do this fall and winter, still, things could have been a lot worse. And again, there was a lot of good things I *did* see this year, be it in the movies I mentioned prior, or in other cartoons or shows. And of course, I had plenty of good books too. Books can be a great help too. ^_^

So, to conclude, 2019 had its good stuff. And bad stuff too. But that's life, really.

Here's to 2020, everyone. Hoping that we can all make it a good year.
