    Check In

    Afternoon/evening folks!

Sorry I haven't been checking in as often as I should; rest assured I'm not dead, I'm still here, just been silent as of late. Still working on fics, but also constantly debating with myself on what to focus on next, wanted to make some new stuff that isn't just Shattered or Star Wars. Wanna bring more folks in, do somethin' new.

    Top Ten Films/Series Of 2023/Reflections

First off, Happy New Year's Eve everyone!

Hard to believe another year has passed, hasn't it? *sighs* how time has flown by. A lot's happened this year; more stories, more creativity and entertainment has come, and I've learned more about myself, and I am very glad for that.

Top Five Favorite Films of 2019 · 5:19pm Dec 31st, 2019

Happy New Years everybody! Well, soon. Since we are closing out 2019, I figured I'd share with you my list of my top five favorite films of 2019. Sadly, it's only five cause, there was only a select number of films that really interested me, and thanks to things in my real life I couldn't see movies every weekend... really need to expand my horizons a bit, but I'll see about making that a New Year's resolution. For now;

Let us break down my top five favorite films that have come this year.

Number Five

Shazam

DC's track record has been up and down in terms of movies. Some turn out incredibly mixed, some turn average, some turn amazing, it bounces around. But this one I feel is one of their best movies, and that's from someone who's not an uber DC fan. Shazam is a film that I think is needed; DC's often known for being incredibly dark and edgy, but this time they didn't pull that 100% here. There is some seriousness here, but it's played when it's NECESSARY. This movie is incredibly fun, it's got great characters, and it's just overall... FUN! I had a blast with this film, hell, if I can be honest, if I was Billy Batson and I had Shazam powers... You know for a fact I would use the hell out of those powers, who wouldn't? I'd be goofing around and doing silly things with those power sets just like him, we all would!

In the end, Shazam was a really fun film that DC really needed, and I am happy we got it. I don't know where this fits in the DC Cinematic Universe, honestly I don't even think it is, but if it's just a film on it's own merits... Solid, solid fun film.

Number 4

Spider-Man Far From Home

Following up the events of Avengers Endgame, we are back to one of Marvel's biggest superheroes; Spider-Man. Adjusting to a new world without Tony Stark, with the pressures of becoming the next Iron Man, and teaming up with one of the coolest MCU characters, Mysterio, it makes for a pretty great followup. I think a lot of us were worried that this wasn't going to be good, or at least, wouldn't hold up especially after something big like Endgame... but I think it did pretty well.

I know a lot of people didn't like Homecoming, and I can understand why, but I think I'm one of the few who was okay with it. I mean it wasn't fantastic or anything, it was okay, it had some good moments here and there. But I think Far From Home is probably better, has a lot more things going on and involved here, and it works really good. If you just wanna see some small superhero action, go check it out. It's worth a watch!:scootangel:

Number 3

Godzilla, King of the Monsters

Godzilla finally emerges back in theaters and returns with more monster action; not only do we get the King, but we also get King Ghidorah, Rodan, and the queen of the monsters, Mothra! If you are a fan of Godzilla, you are going to love this film, this delivers a lot more monster action than before, and the action is a lot more fun than 2014, in my honest opinion.

I still fail to see why critics were bashing this film left and right, this is Godzilla. If you're expecting something deep like the meaning of life, you're not going to get it. This isn't like a generic action or horror flick, this is GODZILLA. And it felt like the makers were giving a damn when making this film, it really does show. The CGI is fantastic, and the score, ohhh... they pulled music from the original Godzilla films, it's amazing! Honestly, if you love Godzilla, I really recommend you check this one out, even if it's just once. It's a Godzilla movie we've been waiting to see, and we finally got it.

Number 2

Lego Movie 2

Five years since the original Lego Movie in 2014, and in that time we not only got an awesome movie, but we got a fantastic spinoff in the form of the Lego Batman Movie, and a... average spinoff known as the Ninjago Movie (why the hell didn't you just get the team from the TV show, goddamn it :twilightangry2:) and now we finally got Lego Movie 2! If I can be honest, I think it's pretty good! Is it as great as the first film, no, but it's still a solid film.

We follow straight after the first film's ending, and we're set in the future where the fate of the Apocalypse citizens world is in war with the aliens waging from the Systar System, and it handles the message of maturity, really well. Anyone who's got quibbling siblings can relate to this, for sure, and man this film's got a lot. Great visuals, great acting, tons of fun jokes, and pretty damn fun musical numbers; I still haven't gotten Not Evil out of my head, and I don't think I EVER will it out, it is that damn catchy.

Though it breaks my heart to hear that this film didn't do so good and there might be the chance we might not ever get any more Lego Movies in theaters. Whhhhyyyyyy??? These were good! These had tons of creativity and fantastic hard work behind them, why do we need to end them? :fluttercry: *sighs* Well... at the very least, we did get four films out of this, which is pretty cool. Lego, I don't know if you're gonna make more of these, or if you'll be allowed to... but if you aren't going to, I say you had a solid run. I'm still gonna be rewatching your movies. Cheers to you guys.

And before we get to number 1, let us talk about a few honorable mentions that I liked... but don't think they could make the mark up here.

Honorable Mention;

Brightburn

A rare crossing of genres, a superhero origin story... mixed with a horror twist. Granted, this film does have some legit problems that I think could have been fixed, but I still think the final product is still a pretty great horror flick. It does not hold back on it's horror element, this is a hard R, and some of the deaths in this film really do show. And the acting from all of our characters was pretty damn solid, especially our main kid, he did a solid job playing a PSYCHO! And the climax, holy crap... that was great.

Now... I have no clue if this film's gonna do a sequel, judging by our twisted ending... but I hope we get a sequel, you cannot end something like this just like that, there is tons of creative possibility you can do with this. Let us wait and see if we will get some more in this...

My Little Pony Final Season

Okay, I know this doesn't count as a 'movie' but you know what, I'm talkin' about this regardless. We hit the final season of the show. It's... it's hard to believe it's been so long. 9 years since this show first started, and here we are at the final season. I know the fandom still got divided as seasons went on; some said quality was going down, some said it was still good, others were in a sorta gray area in the middle.

To be honest, there are still tons of episodes of Season 9 I need to catch up on, but I did see the season finale. And...

... and...

*sniffles*

God damn it, I can't do this, it was so beautiful!:fluttercry: It was so beautifully well ended, and that final song just made me cryyyyy:raritycry:

It's... it's still hard to believe it's over now. I just... wow. But I am gonna say this. Even though the show's ended... that don't mean I'm stoppin' with the content. I'm still going, and I am stickin' around to make more MLP content and I am admittedly curious as to what else will come down the road. And I seriously doubt any of the show staff or writers or anyone will ever read this, but if you're out there and reading this...

Thank you. Thank you all for 9 years of My Little Pony, and for giving us a great show and characters. You did good.

And my number 1 film for 2019...

Number 1

Avengers Endgame

How do you follow up one of the biggest films of 2018? That's a million dollar question we have yet to answer, and yet this film still pulled it off. We see the pain and the trouble that our heroes go through trying to overcome something so tragic and massive, and yet still come together to try and make things right once again. Not only do we get to see the main six Avengers again, but we also get a return of some old heroes, a turn back in time on some moments from the MCU, great cameo appearances, and probably the best, goddamn climax, you can ever ask for a film.

I was hoping that the climax would have something like this, and they lived up to it. If there's any scene in the film that is solid, it's the buildup to that. Seeing everyone one by one, the music's hyping you up, and the numbers keep on growing and growing, all of your favorite characters coming together, it's just... wooow. We need more moments of like that in other franchises, I have yet to see Transformers do something like this.

While I do have some issues, I will admit, I can overlook some... still wish the pacing was a bit better, but it's still good. And I said it before, and I'll say it again. If this was, really was the final film in the MCU... I say it ended on a solid note. I mean okay, clearly it's not, I mean we all knew it wasn't, we got friggin' Spider-Man, and now we got a Black Widow movie comin', origin story maybe?

Either way, still think it could have been a solid conclusion to everything. Mostly everything was wrapped up nicely, and we got a nice tribute to everyone who had performed in over 10 years of films. God bless all of those actors for staying for so many films and delivering great films for the Marvel fans. And it's cause of you guys, you got me interested in Marvel. Well played, MCU. Well played.

And that's about all my top films. Now as for me... I'll be honest again. This year's had it's ups and downs, thankfully not as severe as 2018 was, but it was still hectic. I'll be honest, I don't think I was really great when it came to delivering good content, or at the very least, keeping up a steady pace and balance with that and my real life. And I still need to learn that the stories I make... I'm the one who decides what goes down, I still need to learn to write what makes me happy, but I still love making stuff to make you all happy.

Adding on that, I honestly think I've been a really crappy friend. I'm not gonna say why or to who I think I was to that, but I don't think I was a really good friend, and I really need to understand when I go too far, or don't listen... Really need to work on that. But... that's what next year is for. I wanna try and make myself a better human being and be a better friend. Lets hope I do actually achieve this in 2020.

So with that said... let us make 2020 a better year. *raises glass* And to everyone out there who still stayed with me and following me... thank you. You guys still give me purpose and reason to keep making stories, and I hope to keep it up.

And to all my readers, friends, everypony out there... let us make 2019 a better year than ever. *raises glass*

Happy New Year's everybody!

Happy New Year, FourShadow. And let me say that this list was a real treat to see - it was so great to see King of the Monsters, Lego Movie 2 and Far From Home on your favorites list! :pinkiehappy:

Here's to 2019. Now let's hope we can make 2020 a good one.

Okay, how the heck I ignored Endgame? My favorite movies of the year have to be Endgame and Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

Nice picks. My personal favorite film was Ford v. Ferrari. ^-^

Overall, I’d say this is a pretty damn good list. I agree that Endgame is easily the best movie of 2019 and that King of the Monsters is extremely underrated.

Are you planning to make a “top 5 worst movies of 2019” list, as well?

5191420

I haven't seen enough movies in 2019 to really make a worst list, I'm afraid :twilightblush:

I see. Well, your list is great nonetheless. I’m looking forward to reading more movie reviews. :scootangel:

What can I say except... YOU’RE WELCOME! :pinkiehappy:
