My Episode Review on Mirror Magic · 4:23pm Dec 28th, 2019

Yo, what's up, my pals?

This is your friendly film, TV show, and episode reporter here with another review.

Today, for my 19th episode review, I'm gonna analyze the third and final thirty minute special of Equestria Girls: "Mirror Magic".

Here's the summary of it:

After Sunset Shimmer runs out of pages in her magic journal, she travels to Equestria to get another one. Upon arriving there, though, she meets Princess Twilight Sparkle's pupil, Starlight Glimmer. The two of them being interested in getting to know one another, Starlight goes through the mirror with Sunset into the human world.

At the mall, though, Juniper Montage, having been banned from her uncle's film studio after trying to sabotage production of the Daring Do film, comes across an Equestrian-magic enchanted mirror that can grant her anything she wishes and make her seem beautiful. Out of anger, she uses the mirror to suck the Main Six into it.

Will Sunset and Starlight catch wind of what's happening? Or will the Main Six be stuck in the mirror forever?

I'm definitely gonna start by saying this:

The episode may have some slight cliches that would make it not as different as previous EG installments. But, it has a charm about it that helps it to entrancingly make up for the cliches.

The voice acting, characters, and character development were all extremely well-done. Starlight Glimmer's inclusion in the series and her role in the episode was absolutely amazing, and the chemistry and developing friendship between her and Sunset was fun too. Juniper Montage's role and the outcomes involving her certainly didn't make her as different as some of her predecessors, but yet...there's something about her that hardly makes the whole thing matter. Her desires to have fame and to be adored actually made her someone to sympathize for in this episode, and her redemption was well-played and reasonable. As a plus, the overall developments of Sunset, Starlight, and Juniper were pretty much excellent. I also admired how the entire cast appeared to be really into their roles in this special.

The story by Dave Polsky and Rachel Vine was likewise marvelous. The comedy that they incorporated throughout the special was so funny. The things I particularly enjoyed about the jokes were that they were innocent, and they didn't feel forced or flat. The emotion, drama, and heart that Polsky and Vine gave the episode were more powerful than in the two 30 minute predecessors, might I add.

The direction and animation of the episode was magnificent too. Under the head of Ishi Rudell and Katrina Hadley, I enjoyed how the animators were willingly pushing the envelope and making things as interesting as possible, especially in a way that was bigger than the episode's predecessors. The particular eye-catchers were that of the magic mirror's limbo and what happened inside of it, like when the chocolate-covered almonds were raining down on the girls.

In the end, "Mirror Magic" is a perfect finale for the trilogy of 30 minute Equestria Girls specials, and it has all of the qualities and traits to rightfully be so.

So, I rate "Mirror Magic" five out of five stars.

This is the only thing that I'll ever remember from this special.

Heh.

Juniper may have had silly motivations, but she was a fun villain.

This was my favorite of the three, partly due to Starlight being in it. Wish we could have seen more of her and Sunset hanging out, or Starlight hanging out with the rest of the human mane 7 for that matter in mini-shorts or something.

Every time I see that face, I think that she should not be that adorable! That's Fluttershy-level adorable right there!
