Carol of the Day: Dec 5th · 12:42am Dec 6th, 2019
Today's carol is Mannheim Steamroller's remix of "Good King Wenceslas".
With the Feast of St. Nicholas, or St. Nicholas Day, tomorrow, let's spend a little time to look at another seasonal figure known for his generosity.
According to his Wikipedia page: Wenceslaus I, Wenceslas I or Václav the Good was the Duke of Bohemia from 921 until his assassination in 935. (For reference, St. Nicholas lived from 270 to 343.)
As the legend goes, Wenceslas braved the winter cold to gift a peasant on "the Feast of Stephen". St. Stephen's Day is celebrated on December 26th, sometime called the Second Day of Christmas. Thus, making Santa Claus share the spotlight for famous Christmas gift-givers.
