Cheerilee: Is waiting for Applebloom's guardian to arrive for the parent-teacher conference. Surprisingly, it is not Applejack who trots in as usual-It is Shepherd

Cheerilee: "Eh? Shepherd? What are you doing here?"

Shepherd: "Applejack is off on a mission, so she asked me to come in her place."

*Applebloom was actually with him, beaming*

Applebloom: "He's lahk mah daddy!"

Cheerilee: "Well... Okay. Please, sit."

Shepherd attempts to sit in one of the chairs... Then decides to just sit on the floor. Applebloom waits outside the school house, playing.

Cheerilee: "Well, Mister Shepherd, Applebloom is actually doing very well in mathematics and history. Your help, I believe?"

Shepherd: "Er, well..." *Rubs the back of his head* "Teaching them how to properly do things so they're safe is better than them doing things without knowing how to do it safely."

Cheerilee: "I suppose that's understandable. I don't just think you handed them a load of dynamite to play with, you know."

Shepherd: "Oh! That's good."

Cheerilee: "That said, I am concerned about one thing. Applebloom, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo have few strong male role models in their lives. Sweetie Belle's parents are always off on a case or vacation, Scootaloo's parents are entirely absent and let her be raised by her aunts, and of course Applebloom's parents are deceased. It's good that they have positive female role models, but they also need a father. And they seem to have latched onto you for that role."

Shepherd: "So... Is that a bad thing?"

Cheerilee: "On the contrary! It's very good! I just wonder if you've realized it! It's a very important responsibility, after all. One you can't take lightly: Their futures might depend on it."

Shepherd: *Looks out at Applebloom playing outside* "... I understand. Is there anything I can do to be better at this role?"

Cheerilee: *beams* "Well, if you have some free time, I wouldn't mind some help. A volunteer teaching aid?"

Shepherd: "I can probably do that."

Cheerilee: "Wonderful! Thank you Mister Shepherd!" *She beamed*

One day later...

Shepherd: *Is trying to get Pipsqueak out of a tree while Diamond Tiara clings to him while crying about spiders and the Cutie Mark Crusaders' attempt to turn playground equipment into a mecha has gotten out of hand* "... No, this is really no worse than managing an elementary school back home."

Sweetie Belle's parents are always off on a case or vacation

Huh. Don't think I've ever seen those two portrayed as lawyers (or possibly private investigators.)

Funny and I can imagine an episode or chapter like this.

I have to say, I expected that story to go somewhere more pornographic.

5164677 or international spies!

Probably because the last couple of vignettes have been heavy with that implication or innuendo. I thought that was going to be the punch line again myself actually, so you were not alone in that regard.

Headcanon accepted.

The Crusaders are trying to make a mecha- out of playground equipment? Yeah, that sounds like an example of famous last deeds. Here's hoping Shepherd has an industrial strength flame thrower on hand. He might need it…

He looks nothing like Tom Selleck (who I always confuse with Burt Reynolds for some reason).

And yet... He wears a Hawaiian shirt and has a mustache.

Considering over on the other side Microchips built a berserk robot out of a toaster, Cheerilee can't complain.

Principal Celestia must've been really peeved about that, even if SciTwi was really turned on.
