Doing Rewrites/FINAL EDITS I SHOULDA DONE of A Thief's Tale · 1:38am Nov 28th, 2019
So I've been rewriting A Thief's Tale as I've been posting it to RR and it's been taking longer nad longer to get through the chapters. I'm not upset bty this in the slightest. Every corner, every paragraph, damn near every situation can be touched up. For example, Life in Technicolor: Max is no longer all that upset with Rainbow. He's mostly scared. His meeting with Celestia is less suave and charming. Much more 'goofy-fuck' with a penchant for being endearing. So far I've msotly jsut been fleshing out thoughts and feelings, altering jarring scenes, and trying to make Max more... Reasonable. Logical, for where he is in his life.
I know 90% of my followers here are from of A Thief's Tale, and that's fuckin' lovely. My first work turned out to be one of the best I've made, and though it hurts to admit that, it also has me realizing that A Thief's Tale could be so much more. It's not just the story of a likeable asshole struggling to be a decent guy anymore; It's... Closer to a tale of a broken man trying to get better and backsliding when the hard times hit, and that's where I always wanted the story to be. Maybe Max is my muse, but I've reconnected with the story and the characters; Opened doors for some and slammed them closed for others. Rainbow can be alright, but fuck. Rarity. I've been working from back to forth, from the shit I'm releasing touched up to shit that's already been posted and needs fixed.
I'll link v1.826 when I get caught up with my own crazy upload schedule, but averaging 2k extra words while still cutting bits and pieces out for the sake of my sanity in every chapter so far just means more backstory and reasoning behind actions for the most part. It's mostly the beginning that's going to change, but the beginning is the shitty bit.
well this is interesting news im probably going to reread this story once its rewritten

Hell yeah, it'll be a trip. I'm redoing the first scene with Twilight and Max at his welcoming party now and it's going pretty well. The sex was cut out as it didn't really 'belong' with the narrative I wanted for Twilight
Jeez, I've been reading A Thief's Tale on and off for about a year now, and still have about 190k words to go. Now I have to re-read all of it...
Oh well. You are a master of your craft, so It'll be worth it :)
Well, time to reread this one. Still my fav story so far and i've been readings fics for four years.

Glad ot keep your attention, and thank you for the kind words. I'm truly hoping the alterations and adjustments make sense and add more to the story rather than making it edgier. Just finished rewriting the part where Pinkie tells Max that she knows about his past. I actually like it a lot more now, and I feel it's a lot more justified for what we know of the characters, or at least it'll help build them into better ones

Woo, here's hoping the rewrites make it worthy of that second read! If not, then fukk, that would suck.
And then you sell hard copies!
5161357
It's still a fanfic, fam-o
5161362
So? As long as it isn't for a profit that doesn't matter.
5161508
.... Whaaa? Why would I sell something for free to be paid in free?
5161325
It is already worth it. I just gotta finish another story im reading all get to it. In about a month aprox.
5161835
I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not lmao
5161848
I've been doing rewrites and touch ups since chapter 23, and I'm currently working my way back up from Chapter 2 and now I'm redoing 7. The scene where Fkluttershy spills Max's secret is now nonexistent
5161857
Well, I already sell this for free and I don't want to put money into something I'm not gonna make money out of, my guy. Hard copies cost money, and if I have people pay me to make them a hard copy of the book, then I'm selling the book. I can't sell the book. Not until I redo all of the names and places.
5161860
If people pay you to make a hard copy of AThT, and you use ALL of that money to make the book, then you aren't profiting which means it is perfectly legal. But, if you're only wanting to make physical books that come with a profit, then sure. I just think having this series on a shelf in the future'd be cool is all. Just like having Fallout: Equestria on hard copy would be pretty neat, that is if they do another printing.
5161864
I'll have to look into it then. It'd be nice to have a physical copy of A Thief's Tale, but you know the whole universe would end up being over 24 100k book-sized things long, right? Like, 24 full editions of the first book of the hunger games trilogy, or the size of the original Twilight
5161865
Well, yes. Fallout: Equestria was 600k words long and managed to print the whole thing at a whopping 670 pages. If you put it in one book, yours'd go over 1,200 pages lol.
5161881
... At around 890 words per page, A Thief's Tale would go over 2k pages, my guy.
At the average of 500 words per page, it'd be over 3.5k pages
5161903
Yeah I was too lazy to do the math so I just said "over 1,200" (which means I wasn't wrong technically, because what you said is over 1,200 )
That's half the size of a dictionary lol
5161998
Golly gosh darn
When there's no set due date, you're never really done editing
