IMPORTANT: YouTube, COPPA, Petitions, Get Informed and Help Out · 2:57pm Nov 24th, 2019
Hi everybody, and good morning. So, if you haven't heard, there's this thing with YouTube lately and COPPA (Child Online Privacy Protection Act). COPPA is a good law which prevents the collection of data on children under 13 years old. And, well, YouTube broke that law. So they got sued by the FTC. $170 million, a pittance, really.
But as part of the settlement, YouTube has allowed the FTC to sue content creators on YouTube. It's pretty scary, and this is going to impact, and potentially hurt, a lot of people.
So I ask everyone who's reading this (if you haven't done so), get informed. Here's a good video to start with:
Also, there are equally good videos in the description of that one, as well as this important link.
It's a petition to the FTC to help save family friendly content on YouTube. It's going for a million signatures. If you haven't signed it already, DO SO NOW. Share it with friends and family, everyone you can, and get that number to climb higher.
Also in the description of the video I linked to is a place where you can actually leave comments to the FTC. But it's only until December 9th.
Help out and spread the word. This mess YouTube brought down on everyone is going to potentially hurt a lot of people, and steps need to be taken. So please, get informed and act.
