Managing The First Round · 12:44am Nov 16th, 2019
First of all, I would like to say a massive thank you to all those out there who commented or liked my first two stories. It mesns a lot to me. But I hold true to my original word that I will complete these tales even if I never got any comments. However your support has pushed me to ensure that the quality of my work reaches the same or better standard of my first uploads. 😁😁😁
Now it is time for the first round of updates to my stories.
I released the first chapter update for Auroras and Souls earlier this week. This was my whole reason for starting on FIMfiction. And obviously I never expected to get many views, or any, but the 'new stories' section was clearly very useful for that.
This was the place I had to start from. I had a lot of the story written out, but it required each chapter being proofread and edited at least five times each before I released a chapter. This is where I started to notice myself honing a skill. Only a few weeks ago my writing would have been rather jumbled, messy, or rushed. That much was evident from my first drafts.
However, Upon proofreading, I started to take care of things like punctuation placement, word choices, story desisions and I have even learnt quite a few new spellings recently too. I have been surprised how dynamic I have become at getting my point across using the medium of writing.
Amist proofreading and editing Auroras and Souls, I also started writing Twilight Sparkle: A Canterlot Day. I have had great fun writing this one, and this is where I have noticed the most improvements in my writing skill set. I'm writing this story from scratch unlike Auroras and Souls, and I don't have to make anywhere near the number of edits as I did before.
However, A Canterlot Day started to get a lot more views than I ever expected it would, well surpassing Auroras and Souls, quite respectfully so. Which meant I had a bit more pressure to craft the future scenes to at least the same standard as the opening chapters. This taught me another lesson - Don't just write to fill a scene, or rush a deadline.
Scene three had become a lot longer than I ever wanted it to be, so I decided to split it into two parts. The second half will be released tomorrow. Upon writing the second half I came up with a concept I was happy with, but felt completely wrong when I read the idea back to myself. I had a lot of trouble writing it too.
So I scrapped the scene and started, with the same concept, from scratch. (On reflection I should have probably kept the original draft for future reference, but alas it is gone now.) That was a big task, and a little unnerving. I did it though, and the result? Well I'll wait and hear the feedback I guess, but if people really are reading this, then it's important to me that I don't screw you with half hearted quality of writing.
As I finalise the chapters over the next few days, they will be released. More updates for both Auroras and Souls AND A Canterlot Day.
The future so far?
Well at the moment, I absolutely plan on finshing both of these stories.
I have two other NEW tales I am working on finishing as well.
One I wrote a concept for a while back, and another that is completely new with no previous framework.
Hopefully I can start to release one of these as I get towards the end of finishing A Canterlot Day.
For now, the plan is to finish these four stories, and bind them into a self printed book. For keepsake of my achievement - finishing a story I started (or four). A lifelong bucket list of mine, pony stories or not.
Thanks for your time.
