Pony Peace is Dragon War is Out

Howdy howdy.

I recently finished an entry to FoME's Imposing Sovereign's II contest. It was pretty fun to write, since I got to play with two characters I've never actually written before; Ember and Thorax, both of whom are adorable in my opinion, and very fascinating as both of them are monstrous rulers trying to play nice with the pastel ponies of Equestria, each in their own suitably awkward way.

I absolutely loved them in Triple Threat and pretty much as soon as I finished the episode I wanted to write something about them, so it was pretty fortuitous that a contest about sovereigns cropped up.

I also get to look at Dragons, which I've never really done in stories before... there's a lot that's interesting about how they work in MLP, being part viking from How to Train Your Dragon, part stone-eating monster-thing, and part actual dragon. I particularly found the episode where Spike grows from sheer greed to be interesting... like, what the buggery is going on with dragons? So I finally got to focus a bit on my own interpretation of them.

Also, since I actually helped edit a story for the same contest, and I do like reviewing other contest entries in general, I'll probably have one of those up soon too.

I had even wanted to try the writing stream thing for this story, but unfortunately had a pretty terrible series of weeks for time, since our lab had an expensive (worth half a million pounds!) piece of kit loaned to us, so I had to rush pretty madly to get all the experiments we needed done with it finished... Maybe next time I'll figure the whole deal out.
