Equestria’s currency is probably f***ed. (Math rant) · 10:04pm Nov 2nd, 2019
So, I was just scrolling through, and I got hungry for apples. I dunno why, but I looked up how much two dozen apples cost. After looking around, I figured out that two dozen apples generally cost $8-$9 USD’s. Now, I don’t know why, but then I thought back to when Applejack sold apples. If I remember correctly, she would get something like 3 or 4 bits for one apple. ONE. APPLE. One apple in USA costs 33 cents at least and 38 cents at most, but in Equestria, they cost FOUR WHOLE BITS!?!? Now, I know this is silly to get concerned over, but what the heck? Even if Applejack’s apples cost just one bit, it implies that a single US Dollar is worth 3 times more than a bit. Now, also realize, money and cost tends to focus more on the *time* aspect of products or materials (like gathering, making, etc), so maybe Applejack’s apples cost more since she personally had to go and get them herself. However! I then remembered that Pinkie Pie bartered for tomatoes once to help Fluttershy! So I did some quick math, and figured out that a tomatoe, about the size of a baseball, is ALMOST one third of a dollar (maybe 32 cents). Now, I’m not talking about one pound of tomatoes, I’m talking about one singular tomatoe. And that tomatoe costs LESS than an Apple in the show by two or three bits. So, that just makes me wonder, how much is a bit really worth in the show? I mean, I know it’s a silly question and all, but what the actual fuck is its worth!?!?
Maybe there's different numbers on the bits? If they look exactly the same but have different values inscribed on the bit itself then that's how the bit could seemingly change value in the two instances you mentioned. Though honestly it's a stretch.
