    Loveless

Today I'd like to take a moment to plug Loveless by Alice Oseman. If you're not aro ace like me, you probably won't have as many feelings as I did, and maybe that means you won't enjoy it quite as much, but you will most definitely come out of it with a better understanding of the aro ace experience. (If you are aro ace like me, you'll repeatedly think "That part was kind of uncomfortably

    The Princess and the Popper

One might look at the fact that some new Make Your Mark episodes were released yesterday and assume that this relates to them, but of course one would be wrong. I'm never that on-time with anything anymore.

    A Party to Die For

You know, when I decided I was going to blog about the G5 comic sometimes, I thought "sometimes" would happen again before issue #11. My last blog post was in July!

    The Magic Without

I wasn't sure I was going to do these for any of the G5 MLP comics, and clearly I'm not going to do it for all of them since I've already skipped the first, but I do feel there's a lot to unpack about #2 (now that it's finally arrived).

    On Fairness

I don't have a lot I want to say about the Make Your Mark special, but I do have a couple thoughts looking to get out.

As Pertains to Winter · 5:03pm Nov 2nd, 2019

I might have to rush this one again; time and Halloween party preparations wait for nobody.

So let's talk about Holiday Unwrapped before I get surprised by a series of short stories in my life.

So let's see about morals, then:
- Using trickery to delay tests is unethical. Just don't leave studying to the last minute. (Seriously, how does Sci-Twi not know this?)
- War is hell, and so is Flash Sentry's life since he was born to be arm candy and will never actually be a part of anything important. Except maybe for helping a bit in that one robot fight.
- If you layer enough trickery for the tricksters to find and circumvent, you can trick the tricksters into missing the other trick you're pulling on them so they just trick themselves out of successful trickery.
- Principal Celestia is a workaholic who can be found in her office at school in the middle of winter break. (I don't think they'd normally even have the heat on during the break; what a waste of energy.) Or maybe the moral is that breaking and entering is unnecessary when you have a reasonable explanation for why you want to get in and can just ask. Or perhaps it's just to hold onto the key to your own storage locker rather than giving it to Pinkie.
- The most important thing about gift-giving is that you try; even if they've already got one they'll appreciate the effort and possibly have a use for a second.
- It's important to be clear about what the goal is before you split up to prepare for it. Also, you can only look ridiculous alone; if you stick together as a group then you have strength in numbers and you can look down on those who laugh at you (even if you are dressed as a pumpkin with an inflatable dress).

An assignment for those of you who live in the northern wastelands where frozen water falls from the sky for part of the year: during the first snowfall of the year (or the next one, if it's already started snowing) I want you to go outside, catch some snowflakes, and ponder the moral implications of them melting if they have sufficient sentience to remember their past. After that, you may choose whether or not to eat the snow.

Really, though, surely Sci-Twi knows that a studying all-nighter just before a test is counterproductive, right? She must know that cramming leads to poor information retention even at the best of times, and "the best of times" certainly doesn't mean "when you're sleep-deprived."

In a way it's kind of impressive that Dash spent two days hiding in a snowman to set up an ambush and never thought of the fact that she could just use her super-speed to sneak attack whoever she wants whenever she wants.

I can actually think of two ways that our girls could have broken into the school without doing anything dangerous and without causing property damage. The simplest would be for Twilight to pick the lock with telekinesis (something which, I'll remind you, she's done before) or simply use her magic to operate the inner lock since those doors surely can be unlocked from the inside without a key (otherwise it would be a fire hazard). Alternately, they could go the more complex route of having Fluttershy instruct some animals in how to get into the school through the vents (possibly with Twilight's or Rarity's help in airlifting them or opening external vent covers) and unlock the doors. (I cannot however think of a way to include super-strength, explosions, super-speed, or mind reading in a way that would be both useful and non-destructive.)

I love that Sunset got Twilight a giant stuffed parrot like they never won at Equestria Land. Now there's a good present drawn from shared history.

I'm personally concerned by how Applejack was able to buy Pinkie a tiny party cannon. Apparently those exist outside of the Pie family workshop? Unless AJ went to Equestria to buy one, which seems like a story in and of itself.

And yes, sentient snowflakes raise quite a few uncomfortable questions.
