Purloined Pony Book (Re)launch and Giveaway! · 11:30pm Oct 16th, 2019

Since you're following me, I'm sure you're well aware of the physical copy of my story, The Purloined Pony, that RBDash47's put together. I mean, I keep blogging about it whenever something new and exciting happens... anyway, something new, but very much not exciting happened a little while ago: I got a C&D from the people who make the books that inspired me to write that fanfic.

Now, it was a very nice C&D. The tone was more or less, "hey, you're violating our trademarks, you probably didn't realize that you mustn't do that, so we'd like you to please stop now." The people whose famous four-letter acronym I'm carefully not using would've been entirely within their rights to be much more aggressive about this, but they weren't, and I'm grateful for that.

Anyway, as a result, I've edited a few blogposts and story descriptions slightly, to makes sure there was nothing infringe-y in them, and RBD had to take the book down from Lulu temporarily.

BUT IT'S BACK, BABY!

The actual story content is 100% the same, but the cover and offending trademark-tickling bits are all different. I actually like the back cover better now than before, even if it's not quite as nostalgic as the old one was; colorizing the tree really brings it to life. And to celebrate, RBD is giving away three copies of the relaunched book!

So if you didn't get a copy before, or if you did (guess you got a limited-edition item, you lucky person you) and want one of each version to compare, head over to that blog and check it out!

...Still here? Well, that was all the good news I had, really. If you're interested in news of the weird, though...

I occasionally google my own stories. I used to do it more often, when I was more actively publishing things, but every now and then I'll still plug one or two of my titles into the ol' search engine, and see if anything interesting comes up. Always fun to find out people are talking about you in some unexpected corner of the internet, you know?

Well, I did that with my Screwtape-inspired fic, Letters from a Senior to a Junior Changeling, last week... and came up with this. Certainly the weirdest place I've ever seen myself referenced; I guess it's a blog about Evangelical Christian abuse and power trips, written by two Evangelical Christians? Anyway, I got mentioned in the comments in the context of Lewis "parodies" always being terrible, so not exactly a compliment, but I guess it just goes to show that ponies pop up in the strangest places.

Yay, I've got a collector's edition! :pinkiehappy:

Hm. Famous 4-letter acronym. Not the mouse, then. (Don't mess with the mouse. Seriously.) (reads a little more) Oh, cool. At least you're not being held out as an example of How The Horned One Will Corrupt The Youth. Or being jumped on by a certain Baptist church in Topeka that will remain nameless (because they have a Google alert)

Now, it was a very nice C&D.

Worth preserving for the rarity value, then. Keep hold of that sucker; you could sell it to a museum later and set yourself up for life. :trollestia:

Either that's meant to be "free copies", or it's a really rare collector's edition. (Also sell to set you up for life.)

Honestly, this is pretty much Reason #1 why I never pursue ponies widely on the Internet, which at this point practically is a strangest place all by itself. Even for reviews/mentions, I only usually check those sources I have a modicum of trust in already.
