[NEW FIC] Back to writing ponies! (...sorta)

tl;dr - I put ponies in another fic, but only for a few chapters

So, real quick, minor confession...this fic is actually one of my oldest, and it's not on this site.

Hey, easy, easy, let me explain.

[UPDATE] It's like being nibbled to death by cats

This chapter is a straight up continuation of the previous chapter, and there's literally zero time skip, unlike most of my chapters in this fic. So much so, in fact, that what had originally been two separate chapters (Gilda fights Sunset, sleepover happens) had to be combined into one because the "Gilda fights Sunset" chapter was going to be too long. It was during the

[UPDATE] Yes, you saw that right, new chapter

Not much to say about this one that the notes at the bottom of the chapter itself don't already say. Obviously, my health is much better and my sleep is improving to the point where I'm not having to take medication for it nearly as often. Work is going pretty good (I'll post about that at some point, it deserves its own post) and I've gotten HYPER into The Lost Tomb, which if you haven't read it

[UPDATE] When you get medical confirmation...

So I've said in my rather sporadic updates that I've been going through a lot, and I believe I've mentioned that the things that have been happening have been rather more draining on the ol' spoons than I otherwise expected.

    [UPDATE] Egad, some activity?!

Yes! I am still plugging away at [REDACTED], it's just somewhat slow going due to life reasons. I'm starting to accept that I'm just never going to be as outlandishly productive as WandererD or n7punk, and I'm working on being okay with that.

[THE LIST] I'd use another pun, but even JokingLuna's getting tired of my shenanengans · 11:17pm Oct 15th, 2019

This list is not about my favorite stories of all time. That's my favorites list and one of these days I may get around to writing reviews of those fics.

The List is about stand-out, in-progress works that deserve more love, for whatever reason. In addition to general reviews of the fics, these blog posts will tell why I picked a particular story and highlight any features the reader should look out for. Spoilers will be appropriately marked, so you'll be able to read my reviews with confidence that you'll be able to read the story itself and experience the same surprise and delight I did when I first found it.

Also, authors and fans of works will be able to submit stories. Your particular selection may not make it onto the list, and the more information you give me for why you think it should be featured, the more likely I'll be to read and post it. To submit a fiction, simply PM me through FiMFiction's link on my profile.

The list can be found here: Princess Columbia's List

Applejack: Marvelous
by
Dusty the Royal Janitor1

Premise
The Red Skull wasn't the only superhuman project Hydra was working on during World War 2. Another project was initiated with the capture of a different superhuman, mistaken for a Valkyrie. When they're unable to control (or even understand) the woman, they put her on ice. Upon Hydra's defeat, the sleep capsule is collected with the vast warehouse-fulls of Hydra and Nazi projects left behind after the end of the war, and then promptly forgotten about. Decades later, Loki's entry into and destruction of the Hydra base where the Tessaract was being studied caused the seal on the capsule to crack open, and Applejack, made human (or at least human looking) stepped out to meet Captain Rogers, Thor, Tony Stark, and the various agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Princess Columbia's Synopsis
While I'm not a huge fan of "It's the Cool Thing, but with this character, so now it's Cooler!" brands of retelling of stories, what I do appreciate is when a story is retold where the introduction of a different character results in the entire story diverging, and that's what appears to be happening with this one. Applejack, having the Element of Honesty, is able to sniff out some of the problems that are happening as a result of the Mind Stone being harnessed to the Scepter Loki was sent to Earth with. Couple that with some hints that she's already sniffed out the Hydra contingent (even if she doesn't know what that means yet) make for a very interesting potential future storyline indeed, and that's not even counting the interestingly divergent story the author is already telling.

Why am I highlighting this fic?
Similar to how Stardust dropped Twilight Sparkle into a band of world-savers fighting an alien menace needing to completely change her M.O. as part of her character development to get through the events and get home, Applejack has to stop being a Simple Country Farmer and become a Hero, and further she's got to accept that fact without falling back on being self-effacing and "aw shucks, ma'am" that so many caricatures of Applejack fall back on when writing for her.

What makes this fic particularly good?
The author clearly gives lots of thought to how things change. Sometimes it's just small things, but other times it's big, huge things that would require the spoiler tag for me to mention.

Who would like this fic?
Avengers fans, obvi. Also, if you like the superhero aspects of the more recent EQG stuff, you're already predisposed to the foundational concepts of this fic.

Does the author monetize?2
No, be sure to drop them a line to encourage them to become a filthy, filthy capitalist. :raritywink:

  1. Endorsement on Princess Columbia's List is an endorsement of the selected work of fiction only and is not intended to endorse the creator of the work in any other way.
  2. Why highlight whether the author monetizes their work? By providing renumeration to the author, you often get the opportunity to request certain works be given higher priority. Additionally, when a person is able to get paid for their passion on their terms, it can often allow them to cut out things that otherwise distract from said passion, like a day job. Thank you for the consideration! I'm really glad you're liking the story so far, and I hope I can keep up that level of interest!

I've finally managed to break past something that had been puzzling me and keeping me from moving forward with the story, so new chapters should be coming out soonish :)

Woo-hoo! The List is doing the job for which it was created! Authors are inspired, readers are being directed appropriately!
