Ok I might as well jump in on this bandwagon. Yeah, FIM is now over, at least in terms of no more new episodes.
Yeah, i'm sad. i've watched all the episodes and not getting any more, that hurts...
Still, I aint leaving the fandom or anything dramatic like that, and I have no plans to. On the contrary, we now have like 222 episodes, plus heaps of other additional official content to keep us busy, so it's not like we are staved for content.
Still, what happens now? In my opinion, i'm actually seeing a bit of a last hurrah, and loads of old fans are returning, if just to say goodbye. So really, if you have any plans of creating or just being an active part of the fandom, now would probably be a great time! Yet after that, then what? Sure, until G5, things may quieten down, but that's ok. What is for certain is for a fandom this big, long lasting and impacting, it wont be going anywhere permanently, so that's one reason for us to sleep easy at night.
Like many have said, it's now up to fans to carry. Luckily, since practically 2010, that's exactly what you lot have been doing! Compared to massive universes and ancient franchises like Star Wars etc, we have ensured this little girls TV show has matched the quantity and quality of those bigger fandoms, and honestly, thats so impressive. Something like that doesn't just go, so i wouldn't fear.
So really, yes this is one end, but none of us wanted all this to get stale and rotten. This could be an opportunity to evolve the fandom, in whichever way. Things may not be the same again, but that's ok, for this way, we get a chance to experience a host of different fresh experiences. G5 could be amazing, or it might just tread water. Whichever it is, MLP as a franchise definitely isn't going anywhere, and if we are lucky, we may get to experience something new and fantastic all over again, just like we did at the beginning of the decade, which wouldn't happen if all this turned out like the Simpsons (never ending).
So in conclusion..shed a tear, FIM deserves it whole hardheartedly. But if you enjoy the content fans make, still love the show, have a passion for the universe, miss the characters etc... then you're keeping all this alive, and I encourage you all to get involved in this brave new chapter of the fandoms life.
Who knows what the future holds
