The Ending has Passed · 6:35pm Oct 13th, 2019

The end of an era, or the grand finale, or "we're in the Endgame now." Whatever floats your boat. Point is, yesterday was the end of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

This is a truly special time, and it's one that won't come back. Even a good, Ducktales-level show won't bring back what made FiM so special because if we're being honest, the show was never what made My Little Pony special.

I have a confession to make: I don't watch the show very often. I didn't watch anything aside from the pilot for a long while, and the only reason I found this fandom is because of Doctor Who. I stumbled across Doctor Whooves and Assistant, an audioplay that was really just two friends that happened to be good at performance having fun. I looked for more stories like it, and joined this website to follow L2L’s Doctor Whooves: The Series, which is both really good and really dead. (That one actually hurt a little more than this finale.)

I expanded out from there. I liked Alarajrogers, and that convinced me to watch the Season Two opener. I spread out from there, but I still read more fanfiction than I’ve seen episodes. I’m not sure I’ve even seen all the premiers and finales. And I maintain that I don’t need to.

Is there an Applejack episode makes her grapple with her heritage and selfishness the way Contrationalogly does? A mundane Pinkie Pie tries to brighten a realistic world? Where Twilight grapples with the flaws that the Princesses have, and is forced to admit they aren’t angels or demons but simply flawed people?

This fandom can create nearly anything. By being a part of it, you have already surpassed the show. I’m not worried about whatever G5 holds, (Though I wouldn’t worry anyways, Hasbro is really good at this) I’m worried about how we’ll react.

One day, new ponies are going to march across that screen. They might be good. They might be fine, but in a way that’s different. Or they might even be bad. And we’re going to need to accept that people will like them.

There’s nothing forcing you to be a part of what comes next. But other people are going to think differently than you. And the only thing that will kill bronies is if we turn into a fanbase that will kill whatever is different.

Whatever happens, remember that you can build something you like just as easily as you can break something down, and the former is always better than the latter.

If you'd like to see Twilight viewing the princesses as flawed, I recommend A Royal Problem and Horse Play.

I've heard this story, but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet (also you're missing a "p"). I actually believe there is and episode of My Little Pony that adresses these things about Applejack, even though it seems to have passed the rest of the fandom over: Going To Seed.
