So.... What next? · 3:44pm Oct 13th, 2019
Okay, first off. My thoughts on the finale. Then I'll get to what's next for me. More after the break.
I admit it, I teared up. Yeah, I'll say that much.
Also, not entirely a fan of Pinkie becoming a chaos god for the sake of what's basically a cheap gag. Felt more like needless pandering if you ask me.
Luster Dawn? Not entirely sure what to think of her, given she's basically Twilight at season 1 and beyond that... Well, okay yeah that's meant to be sorta the point with Twilight now the teacher. And no, she's not a StarBurst child. Big Jim confirmed that. Well, I suppose if you want her to be in your headcanons that's fine, and I can sorta see it given her general appearance though it would raise the question of why Starlight of all ponies wouldn't set her straight sooner if she was the mother.
Tirek, Chrysalis, and Cozy Glow not getting redeemed? Yeah, perfectly happy with that. Hell, them getting redeemed would just be... well, let's be honest pretty cheap after all they've done. Gotta say, loved Chrysalis' totally gothic look as a faux Alicorn Princess. Cozy Glow... I can't really speak of her. She's pretty dull, as I've said at times, once you get beyond her being a filly.
Not sure what to think of Discord's little stunt. I sorta want to strangle him, but then again I can sorta understand his logic. ...So, job done writers there? He's always been the trickster mentor archetype. It fits him to a Q.
As for Grogar? Well, I'm sorta pleased about his status being left up in the air. He clearly existed at one point or the other given his bell is a thing. But where is he now? That's up for us to decide I think, unless the upcoming season 10 comics confirm that. And I like that, as it gives us more world lore to explore.
Seriously, you can't tell me this is totally gothic!
Now, what's next for me? Well, as I've mentioned before in previous blog posts I've still got stories to finish and I will finish them. Make no bones about that. (For example, I've got Rodan's saga to do.)
After that...? Well, I'm not sure. I may start branching out to other fandoms really. Write full fledged stories set totally in them, not just crossovers. ArchiveOfOurOwn looks tempting.
Now I ask you, what's next for YOU? Please do tell me.
Personally; I'd probably continue writing MLP stories as I still have two planned.
As for the finale; I wasn't impressed with Twilight forcefully sending her Luster Dawn; her own student; to Ponyville against her will. It feels that Twi is already taking after Celestia in the worst of ways
Not much for me. I have a long held idea for MLP crossover with the DC Universe, mainly Batman, that I just can't think of the minor story arcs that will tie into the overall story. The overall idea I like, I just can't think of a way to getting everything setup for it to work.

Well, considering Luster was probably going to stay cooped up with her books and had no interest in friendship, I'd say Twilight was probably right to give her that little shove.
Completely agree with all of this. I've seen a lot of people saying Celestia and Luna acted OOC in petrifying them. Well, to that I say...can you blame 'em? Although I think people's problems with that mainly stem from Cozy Glow, a child, getting petrified along with them.

Oh yeah, it's the fact that Cozy's a child that's throwing them off guard. A child, who we should point out conspired with Tirek, Sombra, and Chrysalis, three known terrorists and nearly brought back an age of ice, snow, and terror with the Windegos. And that was her actions this season.

it amazes me that people are actually defending her, it's like dude did you people forget she was a villain or
but no "MUH CHILD IMPRISONMENT "
I mean just trying to trudge my way through the episode thread and explain to people the concept of a villain was a fucking headache

Not to play devil's advocate, nor do I intend to touch what may be a sore spot, but I should point out that Starlight almost created 5+ alternate, horrible timelines, and they still gave her a chance.
But see, the key difference here was that Starlight was willing to try a different path. Cozy Glow was nothing but defiant until the end on her villainy. Chrysalis was the same way.

And the good old, "Why didn't they reform her?" Well, that's because unlike Starlight, Cozy Glow didn't want to be reformed, and the fact that she is manipulative doesn't help things. She could pretend to be reformed and try to rule Equestria again.

Exactly!

To be fair, all episode comment threads are cesspools.

the keyword here is "remorse", and Cozy Glow showed none of that

Absolutely right.
You're sort of right. Cozy is dull. She has no backstory, motivation or character besides "I'm teh cute, but also totally evulz!" Even if they didn't want to reform her they could've at least explained where she was from. We know more about Tirek's family. Tirek! HE'S A BIG RED MONSTER HE DOESN'T NEED A BACKSTORY! THE CHILD THAT NEARLY DESTROYED THE WORLD FOR NO DISCERNIBLE REASON DOES!
(The last time I liked her was in Marks For Effort.)
TBH, my biggest problem was not Cozy's lack of reformation, it was the lack of effort to do so after villains like Discord and Luna (yeah, I ain't letting her off the hook) were offered a chance before they expressed remorse. If they had attempted it and she'd turned on them still? Yeah, I don't feel as bad about her fate then. (Still think Tartarus was most appropriate as petrification just made Discord seem so much more threatening and cool and using it like in the finale sort of made it less unique. Yeah, a filly and a mad god get the same punishment. Right.)
