My Thoughts on S9E26 The Last Problem · 1:59am Oct 13th, 2019
Problem is such an odd word to say sometimes, it's like nonsense.
NOTE: This is all expressly my opinion. I appreciate everybody's opinion and I only ask to be left to mine.
So end's the great generation 4 of the classic My Little Pony brand. What... a.. RIDE!!! One I've gladly missed the last two seasons of.
Several months ago, I had seen the spoilers for this episode. All of them, every single one, any I could find.
Needless to say, I greatly dislike this episode.
The Last Problem is an unnecessary episode, made (I assume) to please the Brony community (canonise certain ships) and offer some semblance of an ending that I argue The Ending of the End Part 2 did better. I would argue that it is better to leave us wondering, so we may come up with our own conclusions rather than deliver us a forced ending, with hardly any build up, rhyme or reason.
The past two seasons have been plagued by sub-par writing (with sporadic gems hidden in the soil), total abandon of logical thinking (Celestia being unable to put on an act/performance reflects poorly on her ability as a leader, which I would assume requires a degree of deception, therefore a modicum of acting prowess), and the destruction of the main casts personalities as a whole. There was a lot of potential to be had with the series that never got picked up, and it is a shame that the show had to end a ghost of its former self.
Needless to say, I have hated the writing of Friendship is Magic for the past two years, held the newer writers in contempt and have lost the love I held for this show I will always enjoy the seasons that came before seven. I could go on for hours about why I dislike this episode, but I believe this will suffice.
I am sorrowfully disheartened that this is the end of our beloved Friendship is Magic.
What I actually didn't like about The Last Problem: Writers broke promise to fandom and made Twilight Immortal (don't believe me? Look at the mane six's wrinkles and Twilight's sudden growth spurt), writers have shipped the obvious fan ships (LyraDrops and SugarMac are appreciated, they actually had time dedicated or were at least alluded to), writers felt this episode needed to exist when it didn't.
